Does the brain ever just not start working again after a particularly bad siezure? I have a friend in the hospital right know after his last siezure yesterday, and I don't really know anything about this condition. Last we had heard, he had not regained coherence.

What a scary question! I'll be interested in the answers you receive.

Take care!

my buddy has since returned back to his old self, plus a dislocated shoulder and broken humerus, but still the same guy, but I am still interested in an answer.

Chris - Glad to hear your friend has "woken up" and back to his normal self. Do you or anyone know how long his seizure lasted and what type of seizure it was? I was just wondering if it had lasted longer than the five minutes and if he had been without oxygen? Glad to hear your friend is OK.

Chris,

I do not know how long my first grand mal seizure was but, I do know this. My "feeling" of the beginning of one started appr. 1:30AM in bed. I recall coming to with a couple of EMTs over me at 6:30AM and on my way to the hospital. It's great that your friend is "back to normal" because I wasn't for a good year or so. I believe it was all mental and power-of-suggestion, though. Ya know..."It's gonna happen again" panic attacks and such. But, although I was out for the count for a good 5hrs (they say), my brain still functions decently! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

My daughter had a complex febrile seizure at the age of 18months and she seized for 2 1/2 hours. She was put on a ventilator for three days. So far you would never know it, she is developing great. They told me that we will not know the effects until she starts school. My little girl turned purple around the lips and i dont know what all happened to your friend, I do know the drs told me my child is a walking miracle. I believe God saved my baby and thank him every day for it. She is on phenobarbital now and is due for an eeg the 11th of june. I will certainly pray for your friend.
