One more question that I have is:
Did you find that a Neurotologist is more familiar with the symptoms and treatment as appose to GP or ENT?
I want to make an appointment with a Neurotologist as was recommended to me in this group. I keep putting it off because I can not stand another doctor looking at me as if I am crazy or hysterical.
What do you think?

And one last thing, this group has been a huge source of comfort and knowledge for me, so thank you!

I went to a Neuro...and he was useless...

My ENT is a dizzy specialist...so was very familiar with symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.

I would try to find a specialist that is very familiar with ear issues...

In general, ENTs tend to be hopeless with dizzy disorders. They just don't have the training neurotos do. However it looks like Charlotte got lucky which is great but rare based on what others on this board have experienced.

I was at a seminar with Professor Halmagyi last year (he's an Australian dizzy guru) and he had this to say:

"ENTs tend to not be interested because they prefer cases where an operation is required, where they can cut something or remove something."

He also said that most doctors and most text books were hopeless when it came to dizziness. Doctors dread dizzy patients.

Depending on where you are, I'd stick with the University of Pennsylvania in the US, Rosalyn Davies in London, England or Prof Halmagyi in Sydney, Australia (who I am finally seeing tomorrow morning!).

Hi Anaty

Went to Primary Care Manager(Internal Medicine)---smart enough---to follow the recommended medical cook book,ie., MRI, & rcmnd ENT.

Went to ENT---smart enough to run ENG--order VRT and rcmnd Neurologist---wasn't interested in looking at MRI.

Went to Neurologist---smart enough---to read MRI, Look at ENG, analyze Vision probs & rmcmnd NEUROTOLOGIST at Univ of Penn.

Went to NEUROTOLOGIST at Univ of Penn---who nailed it---requiring---vision VRT---plus continue VRT---after--all tests by Univ of Penn were done or redone.

13/14 months to full compensation(100%) been there for 4 years---if I make it to 5 years with no Decomp---90% chance will not return---if I make to 7 years---it prob will never return(no R&D data on anyone after 7 Years having a recurrence).

Dx---Lab, then VN, then VN w/BPPV---guessing---real Prob was VN With/BPPV---which the R&D data shows---more likely then not.

Take ur pick---this stuff can be very complex---for some---its a cake walk(6 wks to recovery)---for others---its a nightmare---with no two people--alike.

Take ur pick & if ur in the USA---whatever ur Insurance---will cover!
