I am experiencing dizziness, headaches, fatigue, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, etc. I have went from 50 mg to 25 mg to 12.5 and still no difference.

I didn't like Toprol. It made it hard for me to breathe, and it made me fatigued and gave me weird dreams.

woodbeck,

All those symptoms are very common with beta-blockers. If you are taking the Toprol becasue fo hypertension alone then there are several different drug classes you can use instead. IF however, you are treating angina or tachycardia then your choices are more limited.

I know people who SWEAR by this drug. But for me, Persoanlly, IT WAS HELL! I have been on Corgard (Nadalol) for 20 yrs. and it was just HARD to try to switch. It seems to be the drug of choice now days though for PVC's and also high BP..the high BP I don't have... I would wake up an dbe so scared, because with the Corgard, I can always take another "pinch" of it, nad with the Topral, I was on the XL and had to wait until morning. It just wasn't for me.

My doctor just put me on this last Wednesday and Thurdsday afternoon I swear I was going to just pass out right in my kitchen. I got real hot all of a sudden and this horrible wave of nausea came right over me. I took a nap for a few hours and when I woke up I only felt slight nausea. I was fine all weekend, but Monday morning as I was at work, I felt a wave of nausea come over me. It lasted about 10 minutes then went away. Same thing yesterday as well, at around the same time as Monday. I'm waiting to see if it happens again today.

When you tell your doctor you hate Toprol XL and he tells you why you must keep taking it, ask him if he has received any inducements to "prefer" this drug over other beta blockers.
