Hey everyone im 22 years old about to turn 23 and im having shooting pains around my thumb and index finger of my left hand. It started a couple of months ago and its off and on. I do type on a computer for about 10 hours day for probally the last 6 years. The pain is getting to the point were I think I might call my Doctor. It feels like a sharp pain from my index finger down to my thumb and slighty down the wrist. Does this sound like Dequervain Tendinitis?

Yes it does sound like you have that kind of tendonitious. I had it twice already and the second time, it stayed with me for 13 months! Antinflammitories can help. Hot compresses. I am a nail technician, and boy, I am right handed and the pain was horrible. If it keeps coming back there is a surgery to correct it. I chose not to have it. Ask the doctor for ultracet for pain. I take it everyday for my back and it helps, hope you feel better soon, Tammy

Hey Tammy. Thanks for caring so much. The Doctor said I have both tendinitis and begining of carpel tunnel. So i got the best of both worlds  I go today to get my x-rays done on my wrist and then from there my doctor said he will let me know if i need to see a hand specialist. Ill keep you update though for sure.

He gave me nabumeton 750mg which is an anti-inflamatory. It helps a little. I also got to wear a wrist guard which actually is helping. My hand has been feeling a lot better actually. My x-rays came back and they were negative so he wants to see me again in a month to see how it is then.

Hey Tammy! So far ive been better. The wrist brace for me makes typing a whole lot easier. Things seem to be getting better. I dont have shooting pains any more just the casual numbness every now and then. How are things with you?

When typing, keep wrists straight and hands floating above the keyboard, fingers dipping down to strike keys.

If wrists rest on the desk or keyboard, it puts stress on the wrists/fingers. I use a gel cushion mouse pad, helps keep wrist straight when using the mouse.

At night place a pillow across chest, rest elbow on another pillow and hand resting on top of pillow on chest. This will help keep wrist straight during the night. If you sleep with hands tucked under your chin, stop, this keeps wrist bent.

You can wear a snug long sock with a wooden salad bowl spoon (wide handle, not round stick kind) on underside of wrist to help keep wrist straight during the night. Yeah, the spoon will most likely slip over a little, but might stay in place. Rest palm of hand over bowl of spoon.

The pharmacy has Ace brand or other wrist braces that work well. They have a stiff molded piece to keep wrist straight.

I have had surgery on both hands. Mine was caused by hypothyroid rather than over use.

Happy painfree year! Sorry I haven't posted anything lately. I have been extremly busy with my new job of 4 months, nail techician, and doing and insane amount of pedicures which are a no-no to my back and shoulder problem. I haven't looked for a pm yet as life has been crazy. I did go to this store we have here called "Kolhs" recently and bought this kick *** back brace that I wear at work and when I sleep and feeling a little better. I also told hubby I feel I am building muscle as I don't sit very long in any procedure and moving around constantly. It's weird. Taking less meds too. I have noticed I hve developed blinding headaches more common then I would liike behind left eye. I am attributing it to my whole shoulder muscle thing. So I will see what future brings, going to start weight lifting this week a little at a time, Hope you feel better and live, love and laugh, Tammy
