The end of last year my pap came back abnormal and so I had biopsy/colposcopy. The results showed I had moderate to severe dysplasia, so in april of this year I had leep. I had my first pap since leep in october and got the results in today that i had more abnormal cells and high risk hpv..so naturally im bummed thinkin its only been 7 months since my first leep and now i have to go through this all again :( i just dont wanna have to go through this every year..will this be something i have to constantly go through from here on out? or is there hope that eventually it will get better?

well I don't have any experience with leep but I can sympatize. I have ovarian cancer and I was diagnosed less than 2 years ago. I have gone through 5 different chemo drugs and radiation trying to get mine to quit returning. It can be very frustrating both physically and emotionally, as it is with yours also I am sure. My best advice is to stay optimistic. That is what helps me through the most.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. I know the feelings of despair and not wanting to continually go in for Pap's. I CAN tell you what my new doctor had me do that apparently helped as I just had my third normal pap and now get to go to once a year. I also was reviewing the lab results and having tested positive for high risk HPV when this all started, I now tested negative so apparently the virus is now dormant in my body. I don't think this means it will definitely never cause me problems again but I'm going to make sure to do follow up paps once a year and do everything in my power to keep my immune system strong. Admitedly I never had more than mild dysplasia (diagnosed from two colposcopy's) but my doc DID do this same protocol with one of her patients who had CIN III or Severe dysplasia and she is now having normal paps. If your doctor isn't open to natural alternatives, you might have to find a new one. I did and I am SO thankful! Here's what my doc put me on:

I did one three month regimin and had a normal pap. She had me come back three months later and it was ASCUS so we did another three month regimin. Now I've had three normal paps in a row.

***25,000 i.u. Vitamin A per day
***Cerviplex (which is 400 mg. Indole-3-Carbinol) once a day.
***5 mg of Folic Acid two times a day (for a total of 10 mgs a day - you need a prescription for this, it's NOT micrograms. This is milligrams so it's a very high dose!)
***500 mg. Vitamin C two times a day (for a total of 1000 mg).

She also had me switch to natural cotton tampons which I found at a health food store - she said there are chemicals in ones like Tampax or Playtex. Then for seven days while not on my period, I put the liquid from a Vit. A capsule on the end of the tampon and stuck it up next to my cervix.

This whole protocol is done for 90 days (except for the vitamin A on the tampon which is for 7)

Like I said, I did two 90 day rounds of this before I got to three normal paps. My doc said her CINIII patient went through two rounds as well. You definitely have to be under a docs supervision because high doses of Vit. A or Folic Acid have to be monitered. The other HUGE thing I keep reading is to stop smoking! And if your partner smokes - insist on a condom. The carcinigens in the smoke pool in the man's semen and can contribute to the HPV being able to cause cell changes in the woman's cervix. When my husband started smoking cigars is when I first had problems (and this was 22 years after we were married!) For women who smoke, their immune system is compromised so if you smoke - quit!

Best of luck to you!!!!

Thanks to both of you..My mom and my partner have been great through all of this, but it helps to have support from people who are going through it also..I went today and scheduled my appointment for my colposcopy which is Jan. 19th..I'll be glad when it gets here..I think the waiting and wondering is the worst part

Candace, I wish you the best too. See my post about my second normal pap after my LEEP. I'm not out-of-the-woods but I'm feeling more encouraged everyday. Take care and keep us posted on how you are doing.
