i have had exposure to genital warts and would like to know if there is anything i can do to reduce the risk of becoming infected or having warts grow on me. Is there anything that would help reduce the risk? cleaning, hygene etc.
.
I have a very small extrusion aswell about 1mm in size and think it may be a wart growing. Is there anything i can do myself to stop it and who should i see about this problem?
thanks

oh and also, is it safe to give oral sex to a person (a girl) with genital warts if you steer far clear of the areas with warts or is there risk of picking up the virus? thanks again.

Because there is a high chance that i have the virus i am going to see a doctor the moment i get any signs of anything but would like to know, do i go to a regular doctor or someone who specialises in std's?
please any replies are helpful...

The only questions I can definitely accurately answer are that unfortunately, no amount of cleaning or excellent personal hygiene can prevent this. :( If you have the virus, then you have it. There's nothing that can "cure" it but for most people, it does eventually go dormant, or undetectable, in your system. But you can eat healthy and exercise to boost your immune system, which will greatly help you force the virus into dormancy.

And as for the doctor to see, since you're male, you can go to any regular doctor. For females with exposure to HPV I would recommend going to a gynocologist, since it can lead to cell changes on the cervix that can lead to cancer. But yeah, my husband just went to Urgent Care when he first noticed a wart. So you can even go to the walk-in clinics if you don't want to wait to get into your regular doctor. But keep in mind that since you ARE male, no doctor is going to be able to confirm whether you have HPV or not unless you have a visible wart. There's no test for males like there is for females.

As for the oral sex question, I think I remember reading that you should definitely steer clear of the actual warts if you're going to do that. Just to be safe, I personally probably wouldn't do it at all while the person even has visible warts. I would wait until they were all cleared up. But that's just me!

thanks for that. i know i cannot stop the virus but was just wondering if ii could help stop warts from appearing. if i notice anything ill just go straight to a walk in clinic for advice. i do have very healthy diet and such which may help me.
