I had a single unprotected sex 10 days ago which I deeply regret. Yesterday I developed a flu-like symptoms at work, so I took an early leave and went straight home. I was in bed for the rest of the day. I had fever, fatigue and night sweats. Today I felt much better after drinking a lot of water and forcing myself to eat (although I did throw up once). Now I'm worried that this is a HIV related symptoms, although I didn't experience any rash, headache nor diarhoea. And since I had sex 10 days ago, the HIV test would be ineffective as it needs at least 3 months. What should I do now? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

My advice....

1. Do you know the girl you slept with and could you ask her about her std status? If she is negative then you are negative.

2. Stay away from researching symptoms from the internet. You'll drive yourself crazy with worry and anxiety which will lead to more symptoms.

3. You are correct there isn't much you can do until the 3 month mark as far as determining your positve/negative status.

Take some relief in knowing that hiv transmission is rare for a single episode of sex, and more difficult to transmit female to male rather than the other way around. But, all it takes is one time so testing at the 3 month mark is the only way to know for certain.

YOu may also want to post this question on the HIV site where you might get more responses related to HIV.
