I started getting manicures weekly about 6 months ago. My nails seem to have gotten weaker and I get more breakage than I did before I started getting the manicures. Also, the nails on my right hand are actually peeling and I never had that problem before. Should I be taking a break from the manicures, or maybe not getting them every week but maybe just twice a month? Is there something in the polish that causes this?

Thanks.

I would assume it is something in the polish - especially if the technician is using a nail strengthener as a base coat. You can go to your local Sally Beauty Supply and purchase a bottle of Botanical Oil in the nail department or ask your technician if she can get you a bottle of Solar Oil. Apply to the nails at least twice a day and massage into the nails and the cuticles. Ask the technician if she is using any products or polises that contain formalin or formaldehyde. It should say so on the bottle.

Thanks Marti. I do use Solar Oil but have only been applying it a few times a week. I'll start using it daily and check with my technician about the polish ingredients. I purchased a nail strengthener that she uses as my base coat so maybe that's the culprit. I love my "pamper" time at the salon but didn't expect my nails to deteriorate!! YIKES. Thanks again for your insight :)

Marti - I just had to tell you that, since your advice, I've been using Solar Oil religiously at least once a day and I've gotten wonderful results! My nails have gotten stronger and, while I still occasionally may chip a corner, I have absolutely no more peeling. It's like a miracle!! Thanks :)
