View Full Version : Migaines on the mend

After 30 years of migraines I am finally getting better. Several years ago I noticed that I sometimes got a migraine after eating. This was difficult to notice because it varied between 15 minutes and several hours after eating. Eventually it got so bad that I couldn't eat anything without getting a migraine. I lost a lot of weight and started feeling light-headed. With the help of a friend who is a P.A., I found that I have what has been termed as low stomach acid headaches.

Your proton pump needs amino acids to produce HCL. I was a vegetarian, and even though I was taking amino acid supplements and eating some eggs and dairy, I believe my body was not getting enough amino acids. I have started eating meat - red is best - and still need some Betaine HCL and digestive enzymes. I can now eat 3 small meals a day, have gained back several pounds, and have lots of energy. In 3 months I went from 30 migraines/month to 8, and require less and less medication.

How to tell if your body is low on acid? Buy some Betaine HCL at the health food store. Buy the capsules, NOT the tablets. Take one, then another, etc. until you feel a burning sensation in your gut. Then eat some food immediately or you could damage your stomach. Initially I was so low on acid I could take 20 of these pills before this happened. Now I take 1 to 4 with each meal, depending on the day and how much I eat. I am so excited to have a life again and I hope this will help others.

Even if you have hormonal migraines or are hungry all the time (I was), I would encourage you to give this a try. I had tried Botox, all the calcium channel blockers, anti-depressants, anti-convulsants, etc. and nothing made a bit of difference.
