Hey my girlfriend just started taking I think it's Lovestrin 24 (I may have spelt that wrong) just under 2 months ago, and after she finished taking her first set of pills everyday during the sugar pills she didn't get her period although during that time she had a lil bit of cramps however the period never came. Now she is approaching her second set of sugar pills in a week or so and we are wondering if she missed her period due to pregnancy or not. She took the pill every day but she was sick and a few times an hour or so after she took her pill she would throw up. Did the birthcontrol get into her system by then and was it common to miss her period the first time starting birthcontrol. Also would it be common to miss her period the second time as well. We are both new to the birth control thing and any information would be helpful. Thanks

I think the pill you're referring to is Loestrin24fe. That particular pill has a history of causing women to not have a period for some reason. It was designed to make periods shorter, to make it only a 3 day period. But the problem is that majority of the time, it makes the period disappear all together.

Although it's a common thing to miss her period while on this pill, she should still take a home pregnancy test if she has any of the other symptoms of pregnancy. Any time she takes a pill, if she gets sick and doesn't digest the pill before throwing up, there is a risk of pregnancy. That is when back up protection (a condom) is necessary to prevent pregnancy.

Tell her to get a pregnancy test. And also buy some condoms in case she is ever sick again. It's reccommended to use backup for at least a week after missing any of the active pills in a pack. Unless you're like me and didn't trust the pill to be completely effective on its own and you want to use a condom every time. That is my suggestion.

It is not unusual to skip your period the first month on a new pill, so she has yet to worry. But, if she skips this month, she should take a home pregnancy test to make sure she is not pregnant. In the future, if she vomits a up to a couple hours after taking the pill, she should use a backup method for a week. If she is sick more than one day, she should use a backup method until she has her period and starts a new pack.

Relax, with this pill, Loestrin 24, the majority of the women won't have a period or maybe just a bit of brown discharge. I assure you she is probably not pregnant. But, if it would make you feel better I think home pregnancy tests cost under $ 10.00?

I have been taking this pill since July and haven't had a period since I started. If she is worried about being pg I would take a test but it is very common for this pill to stop your period.
