Hi,
I am new here. My name is SunShyn and I am 39 yrs old. I have been married now for 22 yrs. My husband and I have one (young man) whom is 14 yrs old now .. or will be on Sunday.
I have been overweight all of my life, and it has really gotten out of control. All my life I have been living to eat, instead of eating to live. I look forward to eating all the time. I enjoy it way to much. I am one whome is called an all day snacker. Not constantly, but you know what I mean.
I do not eat when I am emotional in any ways , it's just all the time period !
I have come to realize that just as a person can be addicted to drugs, a person can also be addicted to food. I know, I am one who is addicted to food !! Food to me is like drugs to a drug user, you always feel like you have to have it...in fact (you KNOW that you Need it).
Well, my addiction has gotten me up to 304 lbs. I need and want to get this weight off of me!! I want to live, not die!!
This past Tuesday I went to a TOPS meeting. For those of you who do not know what TOPS stands for , it is Taking Off Pounds Sensibly. Everyone there was really nice, and very caring people. I have filled out the application and I will be joining them, because I need that support. I need all the support I can get..not just there.
I have set myself up a Dr's appt to let him know that I will be joining the group and to find out what figure he wants me to work towards, and how many Calories he wants me to take in a day. When I find out - I will then give the leader of the group the paper so that she will know. She has asked me to do this, and I fully understand why.
Well, I do not know if you all do this or not, cause like I say I am new here. But here is my stats as of now ...
Starting weight: 304 lbs
Current weight: 304 lbs
Short term goal weight: 299 lbs
Goal weight: 145 lbs
Take care & God Bless

Hi SunShyn,
Nice to "meet" you! I could have written your post. It is nice to hear from someone who feels the same way I so. I look forward to following your posts and encouraging you along the road. My friends office manager lost 197 pounds by going to TOPS, eating sensibly and exercising. I just ordered the book " 3 hour diet". It makes a lot of sense. I wish you much luck. Have a great day!

So very nice of you to reply to my post! Thank you so very much, it is really appreciated ! :)
Wow - 197 pounds - that is WONDERFUL!!! I'll bet he/she is feeling great !!! :)
That book sounds interesting. Wish I could afford something like that, but with Christmas and a birthday coming up and all we do not have the funds to purchase anything at this time. Maybe you could tell me about it as you read it ?? :)
May God bless you - and it is very nice to meet you as well !!! :)

Good Luck on your weight loss journey! I spent the past 20 years trying to diet, just losing and gaining the same pounds over and over.
I am 61 years old and started June of 2006 at 226, I am 161 today, and plan on getting to 145. I have a disability which prevents most exercise except walking with a shopping cart or holding onto my husbands arm, so I think I have had excellant results based on my fairly sedentary lifestyle.
I followed the Kimkins plan, you can find by doing a search on Goggle.
Good luck with whichever plan you think will fit your needs.

Hi S,
Good Luck on your weight loss. I found setting small goals like you are doing help keeps you motivated to keep going. It'll be awesome to see that 299 appear and say goodbye to the 300's.
As for food addiction, knowing yourself and what types of food you are not good at maintaining portion control is a definite plus and will help you avoid those type of foods that can trigger binges and maybe you can find an acceptable substitute.
I found not eating at night the toughest part when watching tv etc so if I find myself in front of the tv, I will substitute sugarless gum. Whatever dessert I choose is after dinner and if a few hours later, if I am hungry and need a snack then I'll choose a little peanut butter and fruit, or a small amount of nuts and yogurt. That's my strategy for dealing with night eating.
I also found good subs for higher fat meats like using turkey and veggie burgers and switching to whole grain rice, pasta and breads can either give you more nutrtion for the calories you're consuming and many are usually lower calorie. I made some great dinners using whole wheat pasta, organic tomato sauce and veggie burgers as meatballs. You don't necessarily have to sacrifice taste when you are trying to lose weight, you just have to plan it out and get creative.
It's great that you have a place to get support. It nice to have people struggling with the same issues to compare notes with.
I know sometimes when you lose weight people will compliment you and some act as if you are suddenly a different person worth more somehow like you're a stock whose value has gone up LOL but whatever the world has to say about you, remember it's only the outside package that's different. Not to say that you shouldn't be proud of all the work you've accomplished and feel happy that you look nicer and are healthier but there are always attributes and wonderful qualities that people have that have nothing to do with a number on a scale.
If you cheat occasionally or slip, don't waste time berating yourself. Stay positive and remember that noone's perfect and you can start again and do better next time.
Good Luck

hi, its good that your going to see your Dr, I commend you for that, thats a smart thing to do.
anyway yes I've heard of tops and I think there great.
good for you for joining them, I think you will love TOPS..
I hope you can get the support from home as well, your hubby should support you all he can.
just always remember >this is for you, you do it for yourself and it's ok to be selfesh when your trying to lose weight, try to be happy while your dieting and keep yourself up-beat, getting down in them old dumps will only cause slow weight loss believe me, so throw them dumps out the window.
AND DON'T WORRY IF YOUR WEIGHT STAYS THE SAME A WEEK OR TWO IT JUST TAKES TIME FOR YOUR BODY TO ADJUST (Remember that!)
I've seen it take as long as 5 weeks, but everyone is different, I'm only letting you know this so you won't be suprised/dispointed if your one of these type people hopefully not.
just stay your course and keep doing what ever program your Dr gives you.
You have a great start by going and checking with your Dr...altho he/she may refer you to a nutritious...or he /she may start you out on a very low calore diet hopefully the calorie intake he/she will put you on won't be so low that you have trouble with, if that happens go back to your Doctor and tell them your having trouble with that low of calorie intake..they should raise it some...(just assuming here )most Dr's I know start you out with only 1200 calories a day and for you that will be hard for you?...week or two weeks you may be alright, but it probably will catch up with you.
if its to hard for you at the calorie intake your Doctors puts you on besure and either call him/her or go in to see him/her...let them know it's just to low for you..and don't be ashame remember it's for you and your health.
re-read ktt's post its a great post.

Congratulations on taking the first step. You seem to have the will to finally lose the weight. I always say will = progress, and progress * time = success.
Remember, time and patience is the key. It will never happen as fast as you want it to. Look back on this post as time goes on for self-encouragement. You can and will succeed! :)

Tunya-
I am a lil overweight as well...I top the scale at 203lbs and I to had had a breast reduction. Mine was more recent then yours I am almost 5 months post-op actually x-mas will make me 5 months post-op. I have always been heavy but with the larger bust I guess I didnt notice how big my stomach and other areas truly were. It was only until I had a breast reduction that I realized that I needed to work on losing weight cause I was no longer content with my apparence. I guess with the larger bust it took away from one area to draw attention to another area. I need to lose the weight but I do know your frustration with having a breast reduction and feeling a lil inadequate. Well good luck on ur plans to lose weight I'll be pullin for ya!
