Hi Lilo,

I don't think that 5mg is a strong enough dosage to make a difference.

Look at my thread called "Update" on this page. Maybe it will give you answers.

Hey There
I don't know that much about SSRI's but I do know a lot about BPPV as I have had it. From what I understand the condition is physical in that the crystals within the inner ear have gone out of place and are in the canals wreaking havoc with the vestibular system and causing vertigo when the head is put in different positions...having said that, I found that doing the MEP took care of putting the crystals back in their proper spot, and apart from a minor blip last summer I have not had any other vertigo spells since. Does the Dr have you on the meds for anxiety or for the actual BPPV? If it is the latter, what explanation did you get for that? I totally understand the anxiety caused by the BPPV, or any vestibular disorder for that matter.
I am interested in the reasons for going on the SSRI if it is other than anxiety.
thanks

Hi Lilo,

Depending on what SSRI you are taking, you may be on too small a dose, but generally the dose that they try is the standard first, so it should help a little....

The way it helps is by making you feel better... Yur general mood is better and although you may still have the same symptoms, they may not bother you mentally as much.

Another thing is, some of these SSRI's dont work for everyone... Ihad initially tried zoloft and it had made me much more anxious... It wasnt until I got on Lexapro about3 weeks after That I started to feel better mentally. They say that depression/anxiety an slow down the healing process, so thats where it comes into play.

thanks for your responses, the reason i went onto ssri's is because the condition BPV was getting to me so much that i became depressed and felt very nervous to go out,it has completely taken over my life,if im honest,i was 40 today and couldnt even face a party.
