Anyone have experience with Methotrexate for Autoimmune Ear Disorder? I was on Prednisone to no avail. Now they are trying Methotrexate. I am reading that it has not been shown to be beneficial.

Steroids would have been an option but I have bad reactions to them. I know in MS (autoimmune disease)that methotrexate has been used with patients when steroids were not effective. duttin 12-01-2006, 09:48 PM If you don't mind how were you Dx'd with the auto-immune ear disorder?I have been to a neurologist, ent and neurologist I have unexplained hearing loss bilateral.had balance tests and eng/vng only abnormalities were ocular motor. They ruled out meneire's, lab, vestibular.I have not been exposed to loud noises and have not had any virus either. Originally, I was diagnosed with Menieres. A local neurologist suggest I take a blood test. They did it twice and it confirmed an autoimmune disorder attacking my ear. Sorry, but I do not recall the name of it. Treatment, such as it is, is the same whether it is Menieres or autoimmune. However, because it is autoimmune, there is an ever so slight possibility of another autoimmune disorder at some point. The docs, as recently as yesterday, say that it is not common for autoimmune problems to "cluster." Prednisone did not work and was a disaster. Actually, I had a brief heart issue while on it. I started Methotrexate two days ago. We will see. duttin 12-02-2006, 10:36 AM Thank you, I do have MS.The neuro also thought that I had meneire's but ruled that out.Do you have hearing loss? rcristal 12-04-2006, 05:46 AM Thank you, I do have MS.The neuro also thought that I had meneire's but ruled that out.Do you have hearing loss? rcristal 12-04-2006, 05:48 AM I have lost some hearing in my right ear. After a few months on Methotrexate I will decide on a hearing aid. |
