Hi, I was wondering if u could lose weight by push ups and sit ups alone along with a lowered 1500 calorie diet. The reason I ask is because my tread mill recently broke down I used to run on it an hour a day and now I cant. If I can lose weight this way how fast can I lose pounds?

Junior77,
anytime you lower your caloric intake you should lose weight.
bout a pound or two a week should be fine.as for as the sit-ups no, but yeah on the push-ups, any type of exercise is good but the more stranuous exercise is the better ones like cardio, walking running, jogging, ellipticals, bike riding,
I would suggest either repair your treadmill or buy a new one..if its your health there should not be any $$limits to better your health.

Hi Junior
Yes if you cut your calories to 1500 per day you will lose weight. Calories are a measurement of energy; 3500 calories = 1lb of fat so say your body needs 2000 calories a day to maintain your current weight cutting 500 per day over a week gives you a negative figure of 3500. If that is the case you will lose 1lb of fat per week. If you want to lose more weight than that you need to increase the number of calories your body burns by exercise, do not eat less than 1500 calories per day because your body may start to burn muscle reserves, and you also shouldn’t lose more than 1.5/2lb per week. Add jumping jacks and squats to your push ups and sits ups and if you have the room buy a good leather skipping rope.
ps. I found weighing myself was not that accurate on a week by week basis so I measured my self once a week and keep the record in a spread sheet all you need to do is upper arm, chest, waist, hips and upper thigh. This will give you a more accurate idea of the improvements you are making to your body.

alright thanks for the info. Well I got a new tread mill now... yay. So I'm gonna be doing cardio exercises again and will keep doing the push ups and sit ups just because I found I liked doing them. I do at least 100 a day of each.

Sure you can, it all depends upon how much physical work you do.
