I had the same problem for 20 yrs of my life. So first of all I'll give you the advice my doctor did assuming your healthy , "there is nothing wrong with you so enjoy being thin". This did help on some levels. That being said. I started to drink a protein shake that had high calories in it (not the high protein low cals). Start of slow because you don't want to substitute your reg eating with it. The more your stomach gets accustomed to the extra food then keep adding a little. Also you want to excercise. Just some light weights will do. I know that sounds like you'll lose weight, but you don't want the weight you gain to become fat. I gained 10 lbs. in two months, when I was never able to gain an ounce. Since I'm happy with that weight I stopped my shakes. Please don't go on pig outs. All it did for me was make me sick at my stomach so I couldn't eat for a few days.

If you have been loosing weight without dieting be sure to have your thyroid checked out. An overactive thyroid condition known as hyperthyroidism can cause weight loss. The longer the condition goes on, the more riskier it is.

If you smoke, stop. I was underweight until I quit, then I gained 20 pounds the 1st year.

I'm so glad someone else has trouble putting on weight! I've had total strangers come up to me in the past and ask me if suffering from eating disorder when really i'm just naturally thin! I don't even look excessively thin! I think ppl get so used to seeing anorexic celebs they don't remember people can be naturally thin as well!

It's always reassuring to know there are others in the same position :) I stepped on the scales this morning to discover I've lost a few of my hard earnt kilos that I put on >.< I don't smoke, so that's not an issue. I had my thyroid checked out earlier this year and that was all fine too.

As nice as it is to know there's nothing "wrong" with me as such, it's still annoying when none of my clothes fit anymore and when shopping becomes a nightmare because everything looks big. Plus when random people feel they have the right to comment on my lack of weight, that really annoys me.
I have been having protein shakes that I got specially from a health food shop but I've run out of the powder that I put in. It's just annoying and frustrating that if I have a few off days where I don't eat as much as I possibly can I loose the weight that takes me weeks to put on. My aim was to weigh 50kgs by Christmas but I'm back to 43kgs and christmas is 2 and a bit weeks away.
Thanks for all your help. Any other further ideas are greatly appreciated.

If none of that works, go to your local GNC store or anything like that. And get Weight gainer its called. First of all if you want to gain weight you have to do it right. You cant go into a fast food place and eat Burgers. First of all it will give you health problems later on. Second, i would think of why you want to gain weight in the first place. You might feel that you need to gain weight becuase some people make fun of you, first of all don't do it becuase of them. Do it becuase of you. You need to feel comfortable in your own body. Does not matter what other people say. If its for health ressons. Then thats another thing. Anyway, hope it works about for you.

I have weight gainer, I actually bought more of it today and I had a long talk with the owner about ways to put on weight.
Why do I want to put on weight? Because my current weight isn't healthy. I'm 5ft 5inch, weighing 40kgs (roughly 90 pounds) and I look.. sickly. My normal clothes don't fit either. And I don't feel comfortable in my own body. So it's all for good reasons that I want to put it on :)
It's a slow and frustrating process, a bit like loosing weight I guess.
