I've been reading everything to try to find out how to permantly get rid of this bad acid reflux (I can take the burning in the chest, it's the sore throat that does me in). I've read alot of stuff and it looks like nobodys sure, has anybody given anything to a possible Candida cause? I mean mine started after I was given a 3 week dose of strong antibiotics (well it started 4 or 5 weeks later). Has anybody tried that candida diet? or done anything to get rid of it? or do you think it's just made up to get some people rich selling worthless products?

i have a yeast allergy. basically same thing as candida overgrowth. sometime antibiotics cause severe stomach upset that pass a few weeks after you're off them. not the same thing as candida.

But could it be the cause of my acid reflux? I've had it now for about 4 or 5 months. Would it last this long?

yes i have taken certain antibiotics over the years that have torn my stomach up and cause dme some real problems for about 2-4 weeks until it settles down. that's because some drugs are really bad on the gastro system. it's not from candida though it's from the drug itself. sometimes once it starts it's hard to settle it down.

Taking acidophilus for the bad effects that antibiotics produce really helps. You can also eat 4 to 8 oz. of yogurt (containing the active culture), and get the same results. I myself would never take antibiotics without the yogurt or acidophilus. I think the antibiotics do awful things to your stomach and digestive system. Good luck to you.

I've started taking Actvia yogurt, started on Dec 1st. Will see if that helps. I think my problem is slow digestion caused by taking to many antibiotics but I could be wrong.

Neddy,
I used to get antibiotics for cheap in South America. So I took them just about anytime for anything. It was REALLY stupid. My doc figured out that it really screwed up my stomach because it killed all the good bacteria. So he makes me take probiotic pills (2 per day, acidophillus) and enzymes. It has helped alot. He also said that yogurt with active cultures did not have enough bacteria. I have been doing this for 8 months.
I asked him "when can I stop?". He said "probably never, just take them everyday, then can't hurt you". So I do what he says and I have never have a problem (except when i stop them). They are not too expensive, but I always get the kind that needs refrigeration - he says if they don't need refrigeration, they aren't alive. Also, the enzymes help tremendously.
