My brother had a TIA, so the doctor thinks. He had a CT scan done, it showed where he had a stroke in the center of his brain. The doctor ordered a MRI and they said it was clear, so they are sending him home today. We live in a small town and the MRI is in a trailer. Could that machine be as good as a large unit in a big hospital? What should I do for him? What kind of doctor should I take him to?
Thanks !
Thanks !

Hi,
I would take him to a Neurologist. They specialize in strokes and TIA's. Perhaps he'll order one be taken at a regular hospital facility.
Good Luck!

Hi Harvey, sorry to hear about your brother. I was taken by ambulance to a largish hospital and their Cat scan machine was in a trailer, and then was transported to another hospital. Theri MRI was in a trailer. I don't think the location of the machine means anything. A lot of hospitals have construction going on, and that is the reason for trailers. I do agree with the other person though. good to see a neurologist who can better assess/evaluate him, prescribe and recommend.

Hello Suzi,
Thanks! We had our local GP refer him to a Little Rock Neurologist but can't get an appointment untill Jan.5th with a new Doctor. It's a large group but the doctor has only been at the clinic for 5 months. I hope he's not fresh out of Med school. I like someone with a few years on them. Even I got smarter as I got older.. lol
Thank you for your reply and have a great day.

Hi Harvey: I now know I had a TIA in May which showed nothing on the CAT scan and we didn't think it was a TIA..I had fallen and fractured my cheek bone and when that was cared for after a couple days they sent me home. I had no previous history of stroke or no medical reason to think I would have one. Well a couple weeks later I had a small stroke, was put on an aspirin (for a blood thinner) stayed in the hospital in re-hab and even then had a massive brain stem stroke 2 weeks later IN THE HOSPITAL which is what saved me. I was in intensive care a month, paralyzed for most of that time and then back to re-hab for 5 wks and then weekly out-patient rehab which I am still in. I don't mean to scare you but this is nothing to fool with. Suggestion of a GOOD neurologist is mandatory and I would strongly suggest a strong blood thinner if your brother's body will accept it (I'm on Plavix and will be for the rest of my life). I never want to go thru this again. If I recuperate well enuf I want to volunteer for the Stroke Association to spread the word about the symptoms. No wonder they call it "the silent killer". God Bless your brother...I know God saved me. Leah

Hi Leah,
Oh my, you have had a hard time haven't you. You are right, God can make everything better. I also believe he always has a plan for us and he will lead you in that path.... you just have to be willing to travel it. :) Teaching people about strokes sounds like your calling and I wish you all the best. Thanks for your response and please, take good care of yourself! GBU
