I am a 26-year old female that has been dealing with very weird symptoms that i believe are all stemming from allergies. I suffer from severe dizziness pretty much every day for the last 4 months, burning sensation type pain that moves around throughout my head, popping feeling in ears, pressure and fullness feeling in head, sore neck and other muscles in the body , naseau, tingling and weakness in my lower legs almost as if when I stand I am going to faint ( but I never do ). I can deal with sneezing, the tickle in the throat, itchy eyes, runny nose, but this is driving me crazy!
I have been to the doctor's & ER so many times for this they think I'm crazy. I 've had an MRI of my brain and sinuses (nada), chest x-rays for shortness of breath (nada), EKG's, bloodwork you name it, they say I'm perfectly healthy.
My family and doctors just say it's stress and that have anxiety, but who wouldn't have anxiety over waking up everyday of your life dizzy and just not feeling well all around. I've been on Allegra D, zyrtec, claritin, flonase, singular, saline drops for dryness, NO RESULTS. I am lucky if I've had a good nights sleep in the last 4months just from the stress of not feeling well. I even had a doctor tell me that I may be suffering from a herniated disk, or trigeminal neuralgia which they prescribed nabumetone 500 mg ( anti-inflammatory) and flexerill ( muscle relaxer), that I took and it did absolutely nothing for me . My muscles were still sore everyday and i still wasn't sleeping well at night. My fear is that I will keep being misdiagnosed and suffer with this thing that I got going on forever, and it scares me that I go to work everyday feeling like this( i work in a prison , locked in a dorm with 60 inmates alone). SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Caramelmami26,
You may like to take a few doses of Arnica 30c and see if that helps. Arnica 30c is a herbal homeopathic remedy that has been used for the conditions you have described including dizziness and muscular soreness. You can get it from any health food store. It just might help

Do you use synthetic sweeteners? Diet drinks, etc? A large number of these symptoms sound like sensitivity to synthetic sweeteners.

I am in the exact same boat as you!
I have had severe dizziness for 3 years now. I too have allergies and I am now extremely allergic to any chemical scents at all. Mostly perfume air fresheners and cleaning products as well as fabric softener sheets.
I don't know if they have anything to do with my problems or not....but they sure aren't helping any.
Have you been to a neurotologist? They specialize in the balance center of the inner ear. The know more about dizziness than an ENT does. I hope you find the help you need.

Did the allergy meds (Zyrtec, Allegra etc) help AT ALL? Even a tiny bit? I find it odd they didn't work for you at all. That would tell me that maybe it isn't allergies.
Have you had any exposure to mold? Mold can cause symptoms even when you are not technically allergic.

This might sound like a dumb question but what is mold exactly?
My bedroom walls and around the windows get very black when it's cold, I have to clean them a lot! Is this like mold and could this be giving me allergy symptoms?

Mold grows in warm, damp places. Mildew in your shower is mold. Is your house very warm and damp? What you are describing sounds like mold, but usually you would see it in the summer, unless it isn't very hot where you live. Does the black stuff on your walls "grow" on the walls or is more dust-like? Black dust might be soot from a furnace then.

^I live in the UK so it's cold here most of the time.lol
Anyway this started years ago, me and about five friends were playing computer games in my small bedroom. Then all of a sudden all the wall near the window and the ceiling started getting wet, then some of the ceiling started peeling away because it was so wet. Then after that day it just got worse, all the wet turned into black. I would describe it as big round black patches and some smaller patches as well, so i don't know if this is mold. I would try and get rid of it with water and a cloth, some of it would go but not all. It wasn't so bad in the summer months, but when it got colder It got worse and worse until almost one side of the room looked black.
Then we had the roof re-felt and some new tiles. Then we got some special stuff and started scrubbing away at the black stuff, the worst came off but there are now quite a lot of stains. Since having the roof re-felt things have improved but I still get some black stuff when it's really cold and i just scrub it off. The stains are horrible, I want to know if this is giving me allergy symptoms. I'm sure that if i kept the window closed too much it would get really black again.
Can you tell me what you make of all this please? I did ask a couple of people if the room felt damp and they said it didn't but I'm not sure, maybe they couldn't tell because the heating was up. All I know is my symptoms get worse when it's cold, maybe it's because of the dust mites or maybe the room. The black patches now do feel colder to touch then the parts of the wall where there is no black, but only slightly colder. It doesn't feel wet really. But when I knock on the black with my fingers it makes a different sound to the bits where there is no black. I don't know if that means anything.lol

That sounds like a mold problem to me. It sounds like your leaky roof started the problem. Your winters are quite damp, and then when you turn on the heat, that combination causes the mold to grow.
If you can, I would get it professionally cleaned by an enviornmental cleaning service.

I had the same symptoms. Pressure in my ears, lump in my throat, slight dizziness, fatigue, etc. You know what it was that was causing all of that. Acid reflux. I had it bad. I was on prevacid for a while but I went to a health store and found something that works great. I was in and out of the doctors for years. I finally saw an allergist and yes I had allergies but that wasn't causing my symptoms. When I was on prevacid, within the first 3 days of taking the pill I felt so much better.

Just because you don't see the black mold doesn't mean it's not there. And the only way you can truely get rid of it is to replace the sheetrock or whatever it's growing on, make sure that your home is adequately insulated and keep the humidity level in your home at or below 55%. Any higher humidity encourages mold growth. Black mold is very serious and nothing to play around with. I know of someone who was remodeling his home and came in direct contact with black mold. He first started exibiting allergy symptoms. Then it went to his central nervous system. Then his organs started failing. Then he died. All kinds of test were done on him while he was in the hospital but they found nothing...until they checked the home and found stachybotrys (toxic mold) in the basement where he was remodeling. It was found to be so toxic that his wife and kids were not even allowed to go home to retrieve any belongings. Everything they had needed to be professionally sterilized before they could get it back.
It is important to note that not all black mold is toxic. In fact, most isn't. But the best way to find out is to call your local city or county officials or the EPA to find out how to retain a certified testing company to test your home.
BTW, there are black molds that get lighter and darker depending on the season, water leakage and humidity levels. These kind of molds are usually not toxic.
If you can't afford to have your home tested or you really don't want to bother with it if you don't think that's what's causing your symptoms, try packing up and going away for a few days and see if your symptoms improve.

Thanks! But having the heating on seems to stop it, it's when the heating isn't on and it's cold that the room starts to get black.
The heat probably lowers the humidity then, low enough that it doesn't grow. Either way, it really sounds like a mold problem and should be checked out. Not every black colored mold is the extremely toxic black mold that Barb is talking about it. But every mold can cause symptoms and is very serious and needs to be cleaned up ASAP.

Thank you both for the info. Like I said though before I only get a bit of black now and isn't this normal in a cold country, isn't it like condensation?
The only real bad black bits now are the stains that I couldn't wash off, the stains can't be harmful right? I will have to get something done about it.

Hi,
I can relate. I finally broke down and went to an allery doctor. He ran all sorts of allergy tests and guess what!...no allergies. He says I have a senstive nose and gave me a sinus rinse. I slept like a baby after the first night! It is an over the counter rinse. I get mine at Eckerd drugs but Walgreens has them too. It is called NeilMed sinus rinse. Use DISTILLED water with it..( or it will burn your nose!!!...) and rinse your nose each night! He also put me on a trial of 3 days for 3 differnent med's for my symtpons and we have found one that works. Don't give up but you should give the sinus rinse a try. I use it everynight right before I go to bed...it feels great!!!

I am so relieved , I think , to find other people who have the same symptoms I've been living with . I'm pretty sure that I've had these symptoms for 2 years and they are progressivly getting worse . I am extremely light headed and dizzy especially when I turn corners . I also have pressure behind both ears and in my ears . Earaches . My vision, at times ,seems messed up too . Because of all of this and never really feeling quite right it is interfering with my job . It's very difficult to feel confident when you feel so screwed up . My decrease in self-confidence has now led to anxiety & panic attacks . Basically I'm afraid I'm going to faint or fall over on the floor when I wait on customers . So because of this fear I'm not able to do my job . I just want to cry . I finally went to my doctor and she said that I have fluid in both of my Eustacian tubes & perscribed Allegra-D and Flonase nasal spray . I took them both for 30 days and felt a tiny bit of relief but not great . As soon as I stopped taking both scripts I got pressure and noises in my ears again . I'm frustrated , anxiety ridden and scared of how long I'm going to have to live like this . I don't know what to do next ,it's affecting other areas of my life too . I'm now having trouble walking into stores because I feel dizzy and have to walk slowly and am afraid of falling over in front of somebody .
Please help me !!!

I have since let people see the black on my ceiling and have been told it's mold. I don't know if the mold is just normal mold though or the dangerous stuff, and I don't know if the black on my ceiling is just mold stains or if it still is a health risk. I am going to be using some more mold killer on it in the next few day's. What I do know though is that I feel worse in this room then any other room in the house, but that might be because of the dust mites. I constantly sneeze or feel like sneezing. I keep getting spots now as well, I don't know if that is to do with the mold.
I was also thinking of removing my carpet in the next few day's but I don't want to remove it for no reason. I just wish I knew which was giving me health problems, the mold or the dust mites, or maybe it's a bit of both? My swollen turbinate is getting worse and I have bad head pain. I don't see how the mold can still be a problem because we had the roof re-felted which we think started the mold. But it does still feel a bit cold to touch. Can removing the carpet really help?
Thanks for the info rebecca.

I have felt the same way for years and just within the last year I am starting to think it is allergies. My ENT started me on Astelin and Ponaris and my symptoms got much better and now I am out of the samples of Astelin and I haven't made it in to buy the 12$ bottle of ponaris from the ENT office.
I agree with you that it is damaging my life so badly! I can't function, all I want to do is lay down. My depression is just terrible . I don't know how I am going to live the rest of my life like this.
If you ever find a cure please let me know.
Sincerely,
Stacy

Hello everyone, all of you who are experiencing dizziness, its most likely your inner ear. I would go to the healthboards for the inner ear and you'll see many people on there that is suffering from the samething. There is help out. There are so many inner ear disorders too.

Rawspice: What you have to know is the mold you are dealing with is not just located on the outside of your ceilings. It is behind there and probably embedded in the rafters, as well. Your carpet may be part of the culprit, but you seriously need to get someone into your attic to investigate and see how widespread the mold growth is up there. Just cleaning the spots on the ceiling is only touching a very small part of the mold growth on the other side. No matter the type of black mold, the spores and even the vapors off that growth can cause you all the trouble you describe; and, over time the symptoms/damage can become permanent, even if you get rid of the mold entirely.
Good Luck!!

Hiya
i know exactly how you guys feel. I've recently been diagnosed by the least expected person.
I had the symptoms for 4 years (until diagnosed).
I was passwed from Doctor to Consultant, went through all the horrible tests etc.
I ended up in hospital load of times when the symptoms got really bad. The last time I was there I was on a ward for people with diatry problems and gastro etc (was the only ward with room).
Anyway I had an MRi and stuff while I was there etc but that didn't turn anything up. at my wits end i spoke to the nurse who couldn;t beleive that the doctors didn't know what was wrong with me as she had seen it loads of times before. Chronic Intolerance to foods.
I couldn't beleive it.
I saw a dietitian and she put me on a Exclusion diet and i've never looked back. I'm almost free of sysmptoms (I occasionally get the symptoms because there are a lot of hidden foods in foods).
Turns out I have to avoid all these!
Milk Protein
Wheat
Yeast
Any type of vinegar
Citric
Coco
Caffeine
Corn
Pepper (Bell and Black)
Barley and
Nuts
That basically leaves veg and meat :P
But anyone having problems should go talk to a dietician i'm sorry i didn't from the start.

I tried to go in the attic the other week just to have a look myself but I couldn't get over to above my room because there was so much junk in there. Thanks for the info but I don't know why the bottle is called mold killer if it doesn't get rid of it all. You would think that it would say on the bottle that there could be mold on the other side etc to warn people. I'm living with my parents now because of health reasons funny enough and I don't think I can afford to get anyone in to find out how bad the mold is. I tell my parents about the mold but they don't seem to take it seriously, I don't know what I am going to do. I have spots, head pain and I am always sneezing, so what sort of permanent damage are you talking about? This mold has already been on my ceiling for about 8 years!

Finding allergy causes needs you as detective and a careful, clinically oriented physician. Try keeping 2 diaries daily. In one write EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth. On the other half of the page, write how you feel.
Example: IF you are allergic to coconut or rice----many drugs, soap products etc. contain products from them and you are automatically making yourself sick when you take them. One common coconut problem is sodium lauryl sulfate.
In the second diary, write every place you go and on the other half of the page write how you feel. Good luck.

Hey sweetnsour! did you have an ENG done??? Many people have dizziness, brain fog, unbalanceness because some are allergic to certain foods or they may have MAV....Migraine Assocaited Vertigo. You should see and ENT doctor even if your tests came out normal. Food can also trigger migraines...you should check out the inner ear board. Theres alot of great info on dizziness.
