Our new born son (18 days old) stretches a lot. When I see him stretching, I get a feeling that he is too tired and makes constant grunting sound when he stretches.

Is this a common thing for newborns or is my son getting unconfortable with something and expressing like this?

Any thoughs or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hm, can't say if all babies do it, but mine certainly does. He stretches and grunts and his face often turns red while he does it, but he'll do it in his sleep sometimes, so I don't think he's tired.

Yes, very normal. My newborn does the same thing and I think it is so cute.

My dd did this as well. In the first month babies are still "unwrapping" themselves, so to speak. They were so use to being all tight and smooshed that they are now just trying to stretch themselves out. It the same as an adult who sat on a long car ride. Once you get out of the car you tend to stretch out your body as well.
