My son is 5 weeks. Two days after he was born he had high blood pressure in the 100's so the doc monitored him for extra day but then went down a little. a month later we go back monday and today and his average blood pressure on his arm is like 105 and on his leg it is about 88. We have to go back on Friday to check his blood pressure again and if its high still go back on Monday. Anyone else have a infant with high blood pressure and what it could possibly be? i heard being premature but he was born 3 days before due date because he was big. now he is 12lbs. thanks.

have they checked his kidney functions?this is one thing i know has a direct effect on anyones BP the kidneys regulate the overall BPs by producing a chemical called renin.when the renin is out of whack it kind of "tricks" the kidneys into producing more, hence the higher BPs.you are right in that anything that high is way too high especially for an infant.what labs have they done so far,do you know?hopefully they have already done a full and complete lab value work up on him.i pesonally have never ever heard of an infant with high blood pressure.do you know of any possible kidney history in the family?I hope they can get this all figure out soon and get it back to normal.please keep us posted.Marcia

I am just wondering what caused them to check his BP in the first place? Was he having symptoms of high blood pressure? They haven't checked my son's since he got out of the hospital. When he was 6 weeks old, his BP was around 60/40 and they said that is normal. Good luck.

The day after he was born he had high blood pressure so they kept him an extra 24hrs. the next morning it had gone down and sent us home. at his one month visit we were told to go back to the hospital to check it again and it was high. came two days later to follow up high again. the doc wants to do an ultra sound on him tomorrow morning and see a heart specialist to be safe and see whats going on.

Just an update we had to go to U of M hospital to a heart specialist which they did a bunch of tests and everything was fine. They even checked the blood pressure and it was normal. The local hospital we go to use these machines to do blood pressure which apparently arent real accurate as the manual ones the doc this morning said. so everything is normal. thanks everyone.
