My DS is almost seven months old and won't eat any solids. I've tried all different kinds of food. I've tried backing off for awhile and then trying again. He usually just shuts his mouth and won't even try it. Once in awhile he'll try it but he just spits it out. I tried letting him feed himself. He chews the spoon and spits the food out. The peditrician suggested trying soft finger foods because he sticks things in his mouth but he doesn't want that either. All he wants to do is nurse(doesn't like the bottle either). I even wait until he's hungry he's just not interested at all. He's right where he should be in every other area. My first DS loved food from the time he was five months so this is completely new. Any suggestions? Please help

I went throught the exact same thing with my DD. She didn't even attempt to try solids until she was nearly 8 months old. She was completely happy with her bottles. My advice is to not stress about it and definately don't push solids and make meal times into a battleground. My health visitor and mom gave me this advice many many times and it turned out they were right. Even at 12 months DD wasn't that crazy about eating. DH and I just remained calm about it and gradually dropped a couple of bottles and gently encouraged soft finger foods. Now at nearly 15 months her appetite has taken off and she's eating two big meals a day (breakfeast and dinner) and lunch is coming along as well. She also enjoys muching on apples and raisins as snacks. I went to many message boards for advice and you would be surprised at how many babies don't actually start eating until they're over a year old. My advice is to just relax and take weaning slowly. Your baby will definately eat at some point..when he feels hungry enough and ready for the change.

My daughter just turned 8 months and she is just beginning to eat again. She actually would eat rice and oatmeal and when she didn't like her food, like peas, she would make a face, but she would ALWAYS swallow the food. Then for a month and a half she learned that she didn't have to open her mouth and she I quit feeding her until a week ago. I give her colorful spoons, suction cup bowls on her tray and I let her pick up the wagon wheels they can gnaw on and I keep her busy and exploring with food. I also began to make car noises and airplane noises and she laughs and opens her mouth and I put the food in and she doesn't seem to mind, because I am being so funny.

I'm going through the same thing with my youngest. He's 7 months and he wont eat solids either. My other boys had no trouble at all with trying and liking solids. So right now I'm nursing and probably will for awhile.
