So he was walking past me and I noticed a red mark right in the base of his hair so I called him over and realized it was a tick! I freaked out and called DH and asked him what to do to get it out. He told me to twist counter clockwise with tweezers and pull out, well I tried to and it broke in half! poor DS is only 17 months old and I had to hold him down while I was trying to pull it out. Anyways I called his doctor and she said the head should fall out and to wash his neck with warm soapy water. So that was yesterday and it hasnt fallen out yet and now it is scabbing over. It doesnt seem to bother him too much, he doesnt have a fever or rash but Im worried about just leaving it in there. DH says when the scab falls off it will come out then. What do you think? have any of you had to deal with this? should I be worried? we live in the mountains and have a dog.

i never did, but my sister just went through the same thing..2 of her daughters got ticks in their neck..the one she got out with tweezers and the other one, the head also was stuck in there..she was really freaked out and took her to the hospital and they got it out for her..maybe you should ask your doctor to get it out or take yours to the hospital..it doesnt sound very good if its scabbing..i dont know anything about it, but i know that would scare me into making a doctor just get it out!

Ticks totally gross me out. With the dogs we always heat up a pair of tweezers with a lighter, and the heat kills it and makes it shrivel up so it's easy to pull out. The odd time it doesn't we just let the head fall off on it's own. If it's starting to scab over I would take him and get it removed.

You probably have had it fixed by now, but you can also try holding alchol on it, the baby might scream like crazy though, cause it hurts.
