My daughter is 8 months and I finally got her to like Gerber Juice, usually the apple flavor. How much juice does your little one drink at a feeding or in a day? What kind do you use and what flavors do you use?

OrangeCouture 12-07-2006, 02:36 PM My daughter is 8 months and I finally got her to like Gerber Juice, usually the apple flavor. How much juice does your little one drink at a feeding or in a day? What kind do you use and what flavors do you use? weepyone 12-07-2006, 02:42 PM the brand i use is different because i am in theuk so i use hipp organic juice that i add just a drop of to water. ds drinks up to 7 ounces a day although on average he only takes around 4. debating 12-07-2006, 03:41 PM No juice here. It's all sugar without the benefit of the fiber. I do whole fruits and veggies, and if she doesn't drink breastmilk she drinks water. The only time she's had juice is when she's constipated, and that's after I've tried EVERYTHING else. I would skip it if I were you. Especially Gerber (it's not fresh, it's from concentrate). Water is much better for the system then juice. sobannon 12-07-2006, 10:18 PM Very little juice here. Only when he is constipated and then only about 3 ounces. I also give him a bit when he is sick or has diarrhea just to keep him hydrated. Juice is full of sugar and is essentially empty calories. Since obesity is a factor (past now) with my DH and I, we try to be as sensible as possible so as not to put him at any additional risk. I do let Dalton eat fresh fruit, it is also teaching him to chew more. Amy brwneyez9 12-07-2006, 10:51 PM My DD is 2years very little juice. Her ped said no more than 8oz a day. So like 4oz mixed with water and then later she could have another 4oz mixed with water. No more due to the sugar. She can't have no more than 24oz of milk a day. Milk has no iron and can also take iron out of the body making them anemic. Which is hard for us because DD loves her milk. She takes inhalers 2x's a day which really dry her mouth out. So she is always wanting something to drink. It's usually milk, not much of a juice or water drinker. We are in the processes of breaking that habit. Hope that helps sweetea13 12-07-2006, 11:02 PM I don't do juice but maybe one time a month, like a treat. But babies aren't supposed to have more than 4 oz a day, and that 4 oz should be mixed with water. OrangeCouture 12-08-2006, 04:13 PM I mix it with water and I give her a few sips at dinnertime. I like doing it, so I can expand her taste and let her try different things. soon2bmommy 12-08-2006, 06:57 PM I don't give my son juice except when he is constipated, but one of LNP's from our drs office said no more than 4oz a day mixed with water. debating 12-08-2006, 09:31 PM I mix it with water and I give her a few sips at dinnertime. I like doing it, so I can expand her taste and let her try different things. With the long list of "first foods" appropriate for baby's, I don't think it's necessary to give juice just so they can try different things. Juice doesn't have the fiber that real fruit does, which aids the body in the use of sugar. It ends up becoming a shock to their system, which is what results in a "sugar high". I certainly wouldn't do it before bed time (like at dinner). Water is what the body is designed to drink. We NEED water. All day, every day, for the entire duration of our lives. Now is your chance to imprint your daughter with a healthy love and respect for h20. You don't want to end up with a 2 year old who will only drink juice. Anyway.. sorry for the preaching. Just be careful with juice. It's a slippery slope. tigger_girl76 12-09-2006, 03:46 AM We don't give our DD juice. Our health visitor says there's no need as it's full of sugar and just isn't needed. Water is a much healthier option. The only time our DD has had juice was when she was constipated and that was a few drops of orange juice squeezed from an orange into some water. We give her natural fruit and veg. I don't mean to preach at all. This is just what DH and I do based on personal preference and the advice of our health visitor. |
