I am not new to the board, just posting under another name. I am high risk hpv positive, post cervical biopsy diagnosed in July with mild dysplasia. I am supposed to re-pap next month (6 months after initial dx). Lately over the past month I have noticed bleeding after intercourse. Not a lot, but bright red blood nonetheless. Enough that I have to wear a pantyliner, along with discharge like you would get as the blood tapers off. What do you all think? Is this something to worry about?

I have been pretty successful at putting this out of my mind for the past five months since the biopsy, until as of late.

I would get that checked out by a doctor, if only to put your mind at ease. It may be something, but it may be nothing... there are lots of reasons that you may be bleeding, but you should find out for sure.

Good luck!

The thought has crossed my mind to get it checked out, but I keep fighting that darn "denial". What you don't know can't hurt you- even though I know better. Maybe it's no big deal. I have an appt. to go back next month, so maybe the bleeding thing is a fluke, and I'll find out the dysplasia has improved or is gone completely. I am not sure I really want to know.

The way I see it is, with all that you have been through, isn't it better to get it checked and have it be nothing than let it go and have it be something?

I know. I hesitate because when I went through all this during the summer- the pap, the result, finding out about the HPV dx, then going through the biopsy, (having 2), and a cyst removed, and being told to expect a worse prognosis, then being told "hurry up and wait- SIX months!! That was all so hard to come to terms with.
I know most all of you on this board understand exactly the rollercoaster I was on, and that is why I hesitate to get back on it, even though I have to go for the re-pap, re HPV DNA testing next month. Just not looking forward to it at all, and trying my best to pretend this is not going on inside my body.

It's me, Mshell, posting under my other name, as I had trouble locating my password, so had to create a new name, but then I found it :)
Anyway, I am still having bright red bleeding, small amount after intercourse, sometimes low back pain as well. I haven't called the doctor because I know that I am scheduled to go back for the follow-up pap and HPV test again on the 15th of January, and I really wanted to watch this and see if it happens repetitively, which apparently it has.
Could someone please tell me if they have had similar symptoms when waiting to see if your dysplasia progressed, if you had these symptoms occur as well? I have tried reading basic info on this, but nothing is really specific to my situation.

Tomorrow I go to the gyne. for my repap, hpv testing.
Wish me luck. I am a little worried- but maybe everything will turn out just fine :)

I went to my appointment today, and they did the repap and HPV testing, it'll be 7 days before I know anything on that. In the meantime, on the other issue with the pain and bleeding I have been experiencing, and with my past medical history, she thinks that I may have adhesions or endometriosis. She said they really need to do a laparoscopy to be sure, but i was reluctant. She wants me to think about it, and gave me some information to take home and read. She said we have this other (the dysplasia, HPV) to deal with in the meantime while i think on it.
She noticed some redness on my cervix, but said she didn't think it was related to the dysplasia. So now it's just wait and see and continue taking the IB800's for the pain right :)

I got the call from my doctor's office....
2 separate issues here-
1st- I still have the HPV high risk (types 16,18,31,35) so they are still going to wait and watch. I guess it'll be okay. I've been okay for the past 6 months right?
2nd- She went ahead and scheduled me for a laparoscopic surgery on March 13th. She believes this is needed to find the culprit behind the pain and bleeding. I am sure something's going on in there. I am up to 2 IBU800's a day for the pain. I thought back in November that it was due to the possible cervical changes, obviously that wasn't it. She said from looking at my ultrasound results, 1 from November, and one from before that I have had PID at least 2x, which causes adhesions and a whole lot of problems, including the pain and bleeding.
So this is not really related to the HPV, just a separate issue to deal with. I hope it all goes well, and I will keep you all posted...

First, let me say that bleeding after intercourse is NOT normal or an indication Of PID. PID does not cause adhesions...adhesions are scar tissue gone bad. Have you had pelvic surgery and/ or C-sections? Also, are you monogomous? I know that sounds awful, but having sex with different men can cause all of this as well.

OK my fault...PID can cause cell changes equivalent to scar tissue...I just did a quick search of that...it, also says that PID his a direct result of a chlamydia infection...have you had that? Because if not, you may want to see someone else...

Thank you for replying....
Sometimes it can be frustrating to post over and over with no replies, and appreciate so much that you have taken the time. This whole situation really weighs on a person.
I have done my homework since this has all come to pass, and you are correct in that Chlamydia can cause PID, however, not 100% of the time. If fact several years back I found out I had gotten this (chlamydia) from a short term relationship I was in. I was devastated, and treated it promptly. The doctor told me that I had a bout with PID back then and a reccurrence of PID in October of 06, which was not due to an STD (they tested). She said once you have had it, you are more prone to recurring infections, and each time it does major damage.
The pain I am now having is intense and daily. Regular activity is extremely painful most of the time, and I am taking 1600 mgs of Ibuprofen daily, which mostly just takes the edge off.
Fast forward to TODAY-
I got another call from my gynecologist saying they have decided to go ahead and do another colposcopy next Friday, as they feel it's necessary with the hight risk forms of hvp that I have and in light of the previous pap-biopsy. She wants to know what is there and cannot verify without doing the colp what the condition of the dysplasia is. She said before she does the laparoscopic surgery next month she wants to get this done. Geez- so I am back on the rollercoaster! I feel like a can't get a break!! I know so many others have it so much worse.
I feel like she may want to see where the dysplasia stands to factor that in to her findings in my abdomen from the surgery. She said that if things looked too bad in there (adhesions) and if it were too far gone, they would just bring me out of the surgery and talk to me about a hysterectomy.
Here's the funny part. Today I took my 2 girls ages 13 and 14, to the local health dept to get their first of three Guardasil shots for prevention of the hpv virus. I had a little bit of apprehension prior, wondering if I was doing the right thing, but when the doctors office called me again today to tell me of their intentions (colposcopy, another possible biopsy) I realized I was doing the right thing. I don't want them to endure a fraction of this nightmare.
It's really hard to believe that all this has happened, as I am really just a normal woman, like any other, who has had monogomous relationships and a few misjudegments along the way. I haven't really been involved in a lot of risky behavior or liberal lifestyle. Just an average person.
I am going to continue researching more information on these subjects, and appreciate any and all feedback I get.
