Hi,

Please note that your post has been split from the thread it was originally posted on.
That thread was over 10 months old and no longer active.

They can help if the dosage is high enough. I use 100mg or 110mg

i've been taking them for over a year, 10mg 3 times a day and at first they really helped me, i think i need to up the dose now though. They are definatly worth giving a try.

I've been on beta blockers for anxiety for 10 years. For me, they worked when nothing else would. As far as blushing goes...I don't think so.

I've also been on a beta blocker for anxiety and paroxysmal tachycardia which I think was caused by my anxiety. It worked wonders for me.

MrsPM - how do you decifer anxiety/panic attacks from the Tachycardia? I was diagnosed with Tachycardia about a year ago but have been doing so well that I haven't had an "attack" in about 9 months. My cardiologist even took me off my meds a few months ago. This past week I have had two attacks and am getting worried about it all over again...

Have you tried a benzo yet? I think that will help you more than a beta blocker would. I just got off beta blockers a couple months ago and now I have some strange stuff going on. I think they may have caused some permanent damage or something. I'm no doctor, but I have no other explanation for all of the crazy stuff my heart has been doing lately! Xanax, on the other hand, works wonders for me.

That's a good question. It's like what came first the chicken or the egg. To be honest with you I think there are times when my tachycardia triggers my anxiety, just as there are times when anxiety sets off my tachycardia. Sometimes I can't differentiate between the two, but most of the time I can. When I get a racing heart from anxiety it's because of a situation or event that triggers it. I get other symptoms symptoms of anxiety too, like sweating, shaking, loss of appetite, etc.

I also believe my episodes of tachycardia were caused by being out of shape. When I started exercising regularly, it reduced my resting heart rate as well as how fast my heart would beat during an anxiety attack.

I'm glad to hear that your tachycardia has gotten better, but try not to worry about two most recent episodes. Don't get yourself stressed out over it to the point where you get panic attacks that bring on your tachycardia. It's not worth it.

i took beta blockers for a while. they didn't do anything for my anxiety at all. i can't understand why they even prescribe them for people with anxiety. as far as i can see, they are simply for lowering blood pressure. something which has always been unsettling to me. i like to have a nice high blood pressure so that i can feel my pulse and feel that i'm alive

they help to calm down the panicky fast feelings you get when anxious, and you can still feel your pulse;)
