Can you get ovarian cancer with met's to bone in just a yrs time? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm just a bit confussed right now.

Briefly history is....about a yr ago my dr drained FLUID from a cyst on my left ovary when he was removing scar tissue. Pathology came back on the fluid and OC couldn't be ruled out until the ovary tissue was tested. Had a abdominal LSO 2 weeks later with pelvic washing to clean up any cells that spilled out durring the draining of the cyst since no precautions were taken. My ovary tested BENIGN. Yeppie.

Now.... Went to the dr a few weeks ago because I just wasn't feeling well. Not anything spacific, just not myself. Having bowel issues, back pain, leg aches, heartburn, some pelvic discomfort but not really pain, and feeling like something was in my ribs off and on and BLOATING BLOATING BLOATING!!! I thought gall bladder and so did family dr but given previous history also focussed on my one ovary I have remaining. Gall bladder looked fine on sono and MRI. Mri found 2 complex cyst on my ovary that form one and also small amount of free fluid in my pelvis. It also found a 1.1cm lesion on my hip bone along with similar lesions scattered throughout the structure and states it's a possible met's of a primary malignancy!!!!

A yr ago none of this was there or the dr would of taken it then. If this is OC could it of progressed so quickly???? I had a appt with my gyn and he called to have me see him sooner but thats not till Dec 22nd. He will be out of town. I will have the pelvic sono before I see him and have to go into the office before then for labs. I am scheduled for a bone scan on Dec 14th.

Could it of progressed that quickly? Suggestions? Advise?

Thanks

Well, I know that my ovarian cancer progressed quickly. I went to the gyno in september 2003 and all was okay. I got pregnant in jan 2004 and in march 2004 I had a softball sized mass in my pelvis and has satge 3C Ovarian Cancer. Interestingly my dr also told me that my cancer looked benign under the microscope but that it didn't act that way. So I guess to answer your question, yes it can but I know that my case has my very experianced dr scratching his head so try not to worry until you find out something for sure. I know, more easily said than done. Good luck!

Hey, I was in Hospital afew weeks ago, had terrible pain, the Doc thought I had a cyst on my ovary, when she did an enternal she could feel the mass, what scared me was the next day the scan showed no cyst but had fluid floating around in the cavity. They could not find my left ovary or appendix and I would of thought they would do something to find them, as its not usual to have parts you can;t find.
Also the hospital told me to come back if i did not feel better, they usually tell you to go back to Docs, i still feel bad, with terrible nausea. Have not been back cause they have been on strike. Have a history of cyst on my ovaries.
I don't know if OC can spread quickly, but I do hope that you are alright. Do keep us informed and all the best. Look after yourself:angel:

Bone scan was fine. I have my ultrasound and appt with my gyn Friday. I already went in for the labs, and as suspected, it was for the ca125 test. I had it about a month ago from my family dr and it was 8.6 then. I told the nurse when she called to get me in sooner but they wanted to run it also. My previous cyst was just a simple cyst. I know complex are even more suspicious. Is it worse that it is 2 complex that are connected? Mine are still very small at 1.6cm and 1.7cm so together its just 3.3cm. They normally just watch anything under 5cm, correct?

What kind of a doctor did your initial surgery last year? I wouldn't jump ahead of yourself, but I would definitely ask your gyne for a referral to a gynecologic oncologist. This is someone who is specifically trained to detect gynecologic cancers and if you do have ovarian cancer, it is vital that you not allow anyone but a gynecologic oncologist to do surgery.

And to Kiwi who posted about her recent problems, I would definitely not wait until you feel worse, I would go to see your gynecologist and ask him/her to do a CA 125 and complete pelvic exam. Tell him/her about your symptoms and about your tests at the hospital. It is not normal to feel nauseous all the time.

My gyn did my initial surgery. It was just to remove scar tissue from previous hyster. I had a simple fluid filled cyst he had been watching durring this time that kept growing so he drained it when he was in there. I knew going into surgery that there was a chance he would have to remove the ovary but he said it looked fine and just drained it. Calcified psammoma bodies were found in the cyst fluid in pathology so Ovarian cancer was in question. I had a gyn/onc consulting but my gyn also did the surgery to remove my ovary 2 weeks later. He also did a pelvic washing to clean up any cells that may have spilled out durring the draining of the cyst. The ovary tissue tested benign.

I go to the gyn Friday and have my transvag ultrasound before the appt. I am sure given my history he will be very cautious. He already had me go in for the ca125 test so he would have results before my appt.

Since these cyst are complex so I'm not sure what to expect. They are small though. Together still under 5cm, but not sure if he'll take the wait and watch routine which is normal.

I'll update after my appt Friday.

Thanks for your replies.
