We've been using it on our son for a little over a week now. He hasn't had any irritation or other ill effects (yet), thank goodness. But we've noticed that his warts all look much bigger in size. He doesn't have any new ones... but the ones he did have are much larger, as in they stick out a lot more. . Is this a normal "side effect" of Aldara? Or could it mean that this stuff just isn't working for him so they're continuing to grow? I thought it was supposed to gradually shrink warts; not make them larger! I'm debating whether or not I should call his doctor?

Hi,

I was diagnosed with HPV/Genital warts at 24. My doctor at that time provided Aldara for treatment after going through the burning process with acid as an alternative treatment.

Aldara reduced the appearance of my warts by 99%
but it is a slow process and some discomfort came throught that process (itching/burning) yet againg the warts have been gone ever since.

hope it's of some help..

How long did the aldara take to work? How long for the side effects to go away? Any info you have would be great thank you...

As of right now I think it is starting to work, the warts are all itchy and turning white and irratated... thanks again for your time!

Aldera doesn't work for everyone. Keep trying for the period suggested by your doctor. If it doesn't work, try another treatment. I was prescribed Aldera for hand warts. It had no effect on my warts and had no effect on the skin of my hands. When the warts spread to other parts of my body, the Aldera did not get rid of those warts, However, the Aldera produced an inflamatory reaction with very sickening-looking results. It seems that skin on different parts of the body can react differently. Some other treatments for warts are 1) over the counter topical medications, 2) freezing, 3) electrical burning, 4) candida (yeast) injections, 5) laser removal, 6) surgical excision, 7) bleomycin injections, and 8) oral zinc. I tried all of these and only the yeast worked. However, other people have had success with one or more of the other treatments. I suggest trying electrical burning or laser removal last because these are the most painful and leave easily visible wounds. Bleomycin and candida require multiple injections, making them dificult to take. Bleomycin damages fast growing tissues. You can damage nails or hair follicals if the warts are near these tissues. Oral zinc must be taken in such great amounts that it will make you sick-to-your-stomach. Be careful, any treatment that involves damage to the skin has the potential to make things worse if the virus spreads to the previosly healthy, but now damaged skin. In summary, nothing is easy. However, it is comforting to know that most people do get rid of their warts so long as they do not have an underlying immunological deficiency.

Good luck!

Thank you all for your replies!

We have been using the Aldara on our son for a month now. Unfortunately, we haven't really seen much improvement. At times they will seem smaller, like they've shrunk, and then the next day they're back to normal. He's suffered a little bit of irritation in the immediate area, but it doesn't really seem to bother him which is a relief. He has a doctor's appointment in late February so the doctor can check his progress, and I'm sure if it hasn't kicked in by then, he'll try something else. I kind of had high hopes for this stuff, though, because my fiance used it on the only wart he's ever had, and it worked in a little over 2 months' time, with it being drastically reduced in size by the end of the first month. I haven't seen that progress on my son. And it really surprises me, because he seems to have a strong immune system.

Anyway, we'll continue using it for this month, and next month also if needed. Hopefully it will start to kick in...

I've been using Aldara for 7 days, 1 treatement every 2 days.

I have 8 bumps, on the pelvis.
1 has become really red around the bump and stung a little, enough to cause 1 night of without sleeping to much.
All the others I have no idea. They change as you state sometimes bigger, reder, etc. But I believe it has to do with the time at which I look at them. Like coming out of the shower or after a day of work (where I wear jeans and walkaround, note: they are on my pelvis)

so thats my one week aldara message.

My new issue is spreading: I've had ruffly the same amount of bumps for 2 months now, will they spread? how fast?

Its hard to say, some people they spred others the go away and others they stay the same. It seems to be all linked to the immune system so take some zinc and vit C...also I would say warm water and soap to the area everyonce in awhile (At the very least it will keep the aldara areas clean)...hope that helps a little there is no easy answer if something will spred good luck
