 I am new to this board and already have found it to be very helpful. My issue is: I have GAD and some ADD, I have tried Lexapro, Effexor and Prozac for the anxiety. They all worked great for the anxiety, however I suffer from sexual disfunction with all of them. I have been on Prozac the longest (8 months) giving it plenty of time to allow my body to adjust. With no luck!

I have a Dr. appointment next week and was wondering what meds I should do some research on prior.

I suffer from migraine headaches and take 50mg of Nortriptyline at night. That is the only other med I take. I do not want to gain weight and of course do not want sexual disfunction (no orgasm).

Can you help me?

Hi there,

I know the feeling......... However,as a single parent of TWO teenagers & my oldest being Autistic, the whole dating and sex ....... Not happening:jester: So it doesn't have a chance to bother me.... In your case, both lexapro and prozac come from the same family of meds - SSRI's, I can't remember the third med you mentioned, if you sre still having this problem after 8 months it sounds like a change is a good idea. The nortryptaline you take for migranes is also prescribed for anxiety, even though it is classified as an antidepressant. You can research that-the max dose is usually 150mgs per day. I tried pretty much everything when I finally started seaking treatment for my panic attacks and horrid anxiety but nearly everything made me sick. Finally a new doc sugested the nortryptaline - I thought she must not have heard me correctly, because I knew it is an antidepressant and I wasn't depressed, but after getting over the initial junk you go through on a med that has to be taken up gradually, I was feeling better than I had in a very long time. Because you are currently taking it,that is half the battle (getting adjusted to it), I would ask your doc if they can up it for you & then you wouldn't have to worry about trying something new & both issues are covered w/ only 1 med:)

1. The other SSRI's may (or may not) affect you the same way.
2. There is the "new one" cymbalta- it's a SSNRI so your problem may still exist.
3. Busbar
4. MAOI's- work well but have so many restrictions, from food interactions to other Rx's AND over the counter things. They work well for some, but you have to know what you're getting into before trying one.
5. Benzo's- Ativan,Klonipin,Zanax, and MANY others. These are great for near instant (like 10-30 min) relief of anxiety, but are narcotics, therefore highly addictive if taken on a regular basis for even a short amount of time so many doc's shy away from using these long term. I have to say that I take a benzo, Librium, and have for the past 4yrs-I'm happy with the results, but theses are sedatives, not anything that will help alter the messed up brain chemical imbalance that it is believed to be at the root of anxiety.More of a band-aide that helps you live your life, but you aren't getting better, just feeling better:p

I hope that this helps you:angel: becca

WOW- WOW again! That was so helpful:) I also have a child which needs extra attention. My 7 year old son is ADHD and some days takes all I have. What a good boy, but I like to call it "high maintenance". I do exercise alot, which helps. But I am a bundle of nerves most days.

I will give the Nortriptyline a thorough look, I never really thought of that. I want to be as ready as I can be for the appointment. I was afraid to start the Nortrip. at first due to the chance of weight gain. At first I went up 5 lbs. but then it eventually came off and now I am 15 pounds lighter. So hopefully that side effect would not get worse.

Thank You so much for the advice, you are a wealth of information and I totally appreciate the prompt reply.;)
