Has anyone ever heard of smooth muscle disease? My husband has cirhosis from years of drinking and is diabetic. The last blood test indicated his bilirubin was 20x normal range. He didn't give us any numbers but that. He also said his sodium was low and that he had an autoimmune disease called smooth muscle disease. I don't really know what that is and he has an appointment next month with a hepatoligist(sp). The internist he has been seeing doesn't really give much info and I don't know exactly what kind of questions to ask.Does anyone have any info on this?

I am just trying to understand how he came to this conclusion based on his bili level.i know other liver enzymes, when certain ones are way out of range can also indicate other medical problems, but i have never heard of this along with having a high bili level. gathering that your hubby must be pretty extremely jaundiced with that high of a bili level?what are his other liver lab numbers like?

i am sorry but i personally have no real knowledge of smooth muscle disease.i have heard of it i just really have never known anyone who has has it.i am just curious to know what his doc based that Dx on.good luck,Marcia

I am sorry I haven't gotten back since I last posted. I don't remember all the lab test he has had but this disease is an autoimmune disease. We have since gone to a speecialist and he doesn't seem to think that he has this. He has had more blood work done since then but don't know yet the results. His jaundice is extremely better though. He has good days and bad days and has recently come down with shingles on top of everything else. He goes back to the specialist in 2 weeks and hopefully we will know more.
