No cure that I know ofbesides breastfeeding. I don't know if a bottle would also work, but I doubt it b/c mine needs to "comfort suck" to get rid of them. By that I mean they seem to stop when he's doing this quick, shallow sucks, not deep drinking sucks.

But yes, my baby has them ALL THE TIME -- kind of like when he was in the womb, except that instead of feeling them against my bladder, now I hear them...

Both of my twins got the hiccups all of the time when they were very young infants. They are now five months old and they get them less frequently, but still get them often. Breastmilk or formula from the bottle helped both my sons early on, and when they reached three and 1/2 months, their ped allowed me to give them each a 1/2 ounce of water in a bottle over the course of a day to rid them of their frequent bouts of hiccups - a few sucks of water usually did the trick. However, I absolutely would not give water to a newborn baby without a dr's recommendation as I have read elsewhere they get the water they need from breastmilk and formula and doing so could also result in diarrhea.

I know how helpless you feel when your little baby seems to be suffering from a bout of hiccups, especially if it happens frequently, but try to remember that they are generally harmless and as your baby's diaphragm matures, they will become less frequent - hang in there.

Manchak! Bxr! We've made the move to the infant board! haha.

Little Keiran has horrid gas pains and hiccups. A friend of mine with two children of her own suggested 'Oval' or 'Gripe Water'. Both of these worked amazing. I'm not big on using any type of medicine but it's hard to dispute with something that works so well.

For the hiccups I use the Gripe Water, and for the horrid gas pains I'll use the min. dose of Oval. I'm a lot less giving with the Oval, it has actual medical contents that Id rather not be stuffing into his little body all the time.

Hope it helps!

Hi Manchak! Congrats on the new baby.

My baby gets hiccups a few times a day and I've found that drinking anything helps them go away. It doesn't matter if it's from the breast or the bottle...it usually works. Good luck!

Very normal. My newborn gets them several times a day as well. Glad he is not the only one!

DS is 3 months and he still gets hiccups at least every couple of days...I usually just nurse him, but as a pp said, I've heard that gripe water works really well.
