Hi I was wondering if anyone out there has seen similar possible side effects ? My son has been on 54 mg daily dose of Concerta for approx 12 months. He recently exhibited a habit of twirling his hair ( 2 months ) Usually not too distracting, it is becoming obsessive/compulsive. Wondering if anyone else has seen such effects or anything similar ? It seems that we trade one symptom for another...........Last year he said that his eyelashes felt as though they constantly had sleep in them, or as he described it " Crusty bits " he was often fiddling around the eye area. Hmm...They put me on ADD medicine at 12 years of age and I had the habit of scrunching my face, playing with my hair (twisting it up into my ponytail if it had fallen out), pulling on my eyelashes and eyebrows, and other nervous habits. I think it has something to do with the medicine.

I stopped taking medication and just decided to use natural methods to overcome it, but I'm 21. He may be able to get off the pill later once he develops his own methods to overcome the ADD (most do, according to studies).


Most of the habits i got ended up being permanent, though. :(

Oh and..he's only 2 months? As far as I knew Concerta was an adult onset medication, but I could be wrong.

Fiddling with his eyes and twirling his hair may both be tics. Stimulants can cause tics. It would be best to talk to your doctor about this soon.
