I have had really really severe burning in my throat tonight.
It feels so raw and sort of like a sore throat but its not. Does that make sense.
It is really burning on the sides and down my throat behind my ears it feels like.
I tried to eat some cheddar broccoli soup then all of a sudden if felt like it was stuck.
I took a drink of gatorade and it really really hurt on the sides of my throat where it was burning. I got short of breath for a second when I got that pain.
I am so scared. I haven't been diagnosed with LPR or GERD or Acid Reflux although my gastroenterologist gave me Prevacid Dissolvable Tabs to take.
30 mg tabs. I also have generic over the counter rantadine, Pepto Bismol and Maalox Max Total Stomach Relief. I took half of a Prevacid and let it dissolve and it didn't help at all.
It almost seems like it makes my throat seem tighter. Or is that just anxiety.
Someone please help!
My throat has been constantly burning all day. I had some biscuits with butter, a lot of butter actually to sort of sog them up so I could swallow them better and a few hours after that, about noon today the burning started.
It comes and goes in waves. It always burns but one minute I can barely feel it and the next its burning like hot lava.
Someone please help! What should I do?

Hi1 I honeslty panicked with your posts.. anyways Iknow the feeling you have as I had been there... for now maybe you can try and drink some ginger tea.. boil water and put a big chunk of crushed ginger and boil it for another 10 mins... just sip it.. let it cool for a while first.. dont drink it when its too hot. The gatorade may have aggraviated it as it is so acidic.. same thing happens to me when I drink the likes of it. Just try the ginger for now and if it stil persist... go see your doctor... drink lots of water too but try theginger first

First...stay away from Gatorade! That makes me much worse.
This is what helps me...get Carnation Instant Breakfast (vanilla) & low fat milk. Drink only that for a couple of days & lots of water. After a few days, try bread & butter or pasta & noodles and continue the Carnation with meals til you feel better.
This gets me through the bad spells. Good luck.
Hamilton,
Everyone is different, I know, but I gave up all bread and anything else made with wheat.
Wheat really creates havoc with me. Have you tried leaving off the wheat?
Just a thought.

Hi, I am so sorry that you are having this burning sensation. I have acid reflux also and take nexium. Sometimes when I run out of my perscription, I will take a little baking soda water(teaspoon baking soda with one cup of water) till I can get my Nexium. This always helps me.

I also have had that bad burning, it is scary and painful to say the least. After everything settles, I would go to the doc definately, as soon as you can.

Does anyone know about rantadine tablets? I used to take those but I have a bottle sittiing in my medicine cabinet and I'm willing to try something else to get the burning in my throat under control.
Last night when I posted I laid off of the gatorade and drank a glass of water and the burning went away somewhat, not as bad as it was. Thats really weird though because I have always drank gatorade and it never really bothered me until now. Another thing is that the burning didn't seem as bad until I sit down, when I'm standing up walking around it doesn't seemt to burn as bad.
I don't think the prevacid that my doctor gives me is helping much.
I still burn like crazy in my throat. Why do you have trouble swallowing with LPR or acid reflux? Does your esophagus narrow?
What are the symptoms of Barretts? My doctor refused to do another endoscopy even though I practically begged for one. The first and only one I had was about a month after I started having these problems and that was 2 1/2 years ago. He doesn't understand that I can't eat that the food always gets stuck and he says that I don't have acid reflux backing into my esophagus or GERD but if I don't then why is he giving me Prevacids?
I only had the burning around my belly button area and he said that was strangely too low for someone to have the burning feeling that I do.
But he couldn't explain to me what was happening, why I was burning.
Believe me I've had every possible test that he can do on me.
Right now I'm without insurance so I can't do anything.

Is it possible anxiety is contributing to your reflux problems? I know when I am under stress my reflux goes through the roof and you seem very stressed out about your symptoms.

I'm still having such bad burning in my throat today that I can't stand it any more.
I'm all panicked out thinking I'm going to die that I'm not going to make it through today!
I woke up and took a hot shower because my throat felt all clogged up now behind my ears feel full and I'm really having trouble swallowing.
It feels like I'm swallowing a lump every time I swallow. My esophagus feels narrowed like just water is straining to go down.
I don't know what to take for it, I have Pepto Bismol, Maalox, Prevacid Dissolvables, walmart brand generic randadine tablets comparable to Zantac it says, they are 75mg. I would rather drink the liquid because it would be easier going down.
Just the whole back of my throat feels raw, constricted like my throat is closing off and on top of that I'm having severe sinus drainage today and I can taste it going down the back of my throat.
If I went to the ER I don't even know what they might be able to do. Anything?

Please try the Carnation breakfast drinks. (if you can tolerate milk). It really helps me. But takes a few days. And try not to talk. Rest your throat.
