hi i am meagen- my mother has epilepsy, she has scar tissue on the left temperlobe region of the brain and she has pedimal seizures i believe. but this isn't necessarily my problem, whats wrong is taht she says she is gonna have brain surgery this april to try to remove to scar tissure. but the problem is that all my life growing up she always told me she would never have the surgery cua she would a.) either die on the operating table or b.) lose all her memory and not be able to remember even who i was. and that the reasone she lost custody of my at age 7 was cuz she wouldn't have the operation. this has alot of emotional baggage with it, she is really a bit "sick" in her head and we have alot of problems between us. but i am her only daughter and i love her, even though i don't like being around her. well i rescently moved to texas a few years ago (she lives in chicago), and i can't get up there to be with her fro her operation, i jsut wanted to know if she would be alright, i can't stand the thought of her dying with me there by her side or her looking at me in my eyes and asking who i am. that would kill me inside. i really need some advice or comfrot or something, i have been trying to talk her out of it for over a year now, but she says her seizures are getting longer and more frequent and i am scared cuz there is nothing i can do. what do i do?

hi, I think maybe if u ask your mom if you could talk to her doctor? maybe the risks arent as severe as they were when u were a child? I think the best way, well maybe is just to inform yourself, and maybe it isnt as bad as you think and if they are, at least u know. (()))

As well as talking to her doctor you could do some research on the internet. Maybe you'll feel more secure once you know everything that's involved with the surgery.

My daughter, 24 years old is going to have surgery next week. They are going to put electro's directly on the brain to see if they can go in to get the scar tissue. If they can, she has a 60% chance of being seizure free and a 90% chance of being improved.
I'm sure they have run all kinds of test on your mother and would not do it if they did not think she was a good candidate for surgery. My daughter's seizures are also coming from her left side. Best wishes.
