here is my background, i hope someone can help me. i am 39 years old. in august of 2002, i had a hysterectomy. my ovaries were left. in october, i went back to work. the second day back, i had a grand mal seizure. mri, eeg cat tests showed nothing. doctors said it was near syncope caused by the trauma of finding that i had a cancerous tumor in my uterus. in november, while on disability at home, i had a partial seizure, went back to work in jan. just a few days ago, i had another grand mal seizure at work. my question is can epileptic type seizures be caused by trouble during surgery, like lack of oxygen.......help i am scared and cant seem to get any straight answers from doctors,,at least not yet!!!!

God bless you for what you have been through. Yes, lack of oxygen can cause damage to the brain which in turn can cause seizures. What caused you to have a lack of oxygen? Have they done an MRI on you with contrast? How do they know this is the cause of your seizures? How long were you without oxygen? You are in my prayers along with the others here.

i really do not know if this is the cause of my seizures. i do not know how long i was without oxygen. all i can tell you is when i became aware, after the surgery, i was not breathing, and i remember being bagged, and a tube being put down my throat, so that i could breath. my next memory is choking on that very same tube. i have no idea what caused this other than it was possibly the epidural that was used for pain management. that is all i know so far. thanks for your thoughts and prayers. i am pretty tough, but a person can only take so much!!!!! Anger keeps me motivated to find out what happened in the hours after my surgery.
