Has your arms ever itched so bad you just wanted to take a fork and scratch the skin off??? Awake, alseep, driving, in the shower, eating out, stores, the fresh air, the sun the heat. This has been happening for several years now and i cannot figure out whats causing it.
Most of the time my skin just prickles, but then theres the times when i get little bumps or little blisters on my hands and my arms. When i get the bumps i have to scratch them till they get blood. Then i have to run cold water on my skin, then put vaseline and then ice on my arms to make them freeze.
Sometimes i have to repeat the cold process several times to make the itching stop. When i am out of the house and i itch the only thing i can do is scratch.
My arms and the tops of my hands are full of scars and new scratches. Ive used everything from benedryl to calmine lotion. Aloe vera helped for a day or two but now it doesnt work. What kind of allergy could i have that i need to use cold water vaseling and ice to make it stop.
Help me please i am going crazy.

It could be any number of things. Soap, cotton, lotion, detergent, etc. The only way to find out is to get tested by an allergist.

It sounds a lot like me...I can't put nice sheets on the bed because I scratch in my sleep and there are blood spots all over them in the morning. I'm told mine (the eczema) is caused mainly by a nickel allergy- although I came up allergic to so MANY things that there could be other factors as well.
I have a regular antihistimine that I take (Zyrtec 10mg), but if the skin is bad at bedtime I also take a Benedryl. The best thing is this stuff the allergist prescribed; it is Triamcinolone mixed into VaniCreme. I use it liberally and often, and it seems to help.
Also, it seems to be slightly better when I am well hydrated, so I've gradually worked up to about five litres of water a day.

well, i just wanted to give everyone an update on my itchy arms. last week i went to the emergency room as i hurt my elbow and i thought it was broke. while waiting for the doc to come in and see me my arms started itching like crazy and i needed something to put on them. the nurse gave me some aand d ointment emollient by fougera. it stopped the itching so i thought this is great. so i went to try and find this brand. all i could find was an a and d oinment for diaper rash. it didnt work. i think it was the scent or something. so i looked everywhere for the brand the hospital gave me and could only find it online. i ordered it. in the meantime i had a doc appt with my doc and he gave me naproxen 500 milligrams to take for the pain. i took one in the morning and stopped itching and then took another one later in the day and stopped itching again. today i only took one this morning and this afternoon i didnt take one and my arms went crazy with bumps and itching. i took another 500 ml naproxen and the itching is almost gone again.
now, what would be in that little pill that would make my arms feel better. i know i cant take this pill forever as it could hurt my liver or something. so i am enjoying the non itch time i am having. but i have a derm appt one of these months and they will see what is my problem but until then i will take my naproxen.
does anyone know what could be in this pill that is helping me. :)
Have you tried seeing an infectious disease doctor? I have similar symptoms that get worse with sunlight and blood work is hinting at lupus.

thank you. the a and d ointment only worked for a few days. and now my doc gave me some steroid cream. its working a little better but isnt stopping it all the way. he has made me an appt with a derm but i have to wait for them to send it to me. ill mention what you said to him and the other suggestions and maybe ill get relief soon. :)
