hi all im 25 years old. for several years i have had "back of the head pain" its where my neck meets my head. my dad died of brain cancer so they have sent me to see a neurologist -- who found nothing. then this summer i had a CT on my head and they also found nothing. the pain is pretty bad. im not sure if this is a head problem -- could it be my neck so high up? im desperate for relief. i thought about going to see a chiropracter and seeing what he thought? im also 6 months pregnant and since i have been pregnant the pain seems to be worse -- any ideas?

Hiya,

Not to discount any of the fears you have bcause of your Dad, but the most obvious thing I feel might be stress. I get the most horrendous pain in the same area and I notice it is made worse by anything that causes me to tighten up my head and neck area.

I use gentle manipulitive exercises to loosen my neck and shoulders and find this helps.

I know it seems maybe that it is nothing to do with it but with all of your worries about what might be happening, but maybe worth looking into

Take care

i have to agree with goldenwings....i have pain there on a regular basis and yes it can be very bad kinda like migraine headache....
when it gets bad for me i buy those heated pads you can buy at any pharmacy...therma care is the name i think.. helps alot

it's highly unlikely that this is any type of cancer....you've had two negative tests both of which would pick up even a very small cancer....so let your mind rest about that and try your best to relax your shoulders.....i tend to sorta pull my shoulders up when i am nervous or tense and that brings on the headache pretty quickly....

congrats on you on your pregnancy, which can also be contributing to your headaches.....

best of wishes ........................................ peace:angel:

just an FYI,but women for some reason seem to carry their stress right in the exact area where you described, for men its usually more frontal, like the forehead area?neck tension can cause some pretty nasty pain at times, and of course, any further stress can aggrevate the problem, then worrying about it,well a bit of a cycle can develop where you just keep recreating your own pain.you need to find ways to try and keep those muscles a bit less stressed.a chiro can help with that,or even having your doc refer you for some PT for neck pain where they will help to work out that tesion and stress and get rid of the trigger points that tend to develop when muscles are under constant stress and tension.

normally i wouldn't reccomend seeing a chiro unless your c spine has been cleared of any sort of major structural problems, just because their is such a risk to the very highly innervated c spine area when someone just starts to manipulate withut having the benefit of really knowing whats up in the cord and at the nerve level as they do with an MRI.but from what you have stated,it really doesn't sound as though you have any major problems up there,so i would consider it.that choice is entirely up to you.

even just getting a real good neck and upper shoulder massage would help alot(a good hint to your hubby for a good christmas present perhaps?)alot of massage facilitys do give something similar to a gift card or something along those lines?just a thought, afterall, you ARE carrying his child for him,its the least he can do for you.

but this really sounds as though you just have alot of tension and stress up in that whole area that just needs to be dissapated in some way.try getting some sort of a good thereputic massage and see how it all feels after.if things feel better, well you can probably chalk it all up to the stress thing,if not, well then there are other things you need to speak to your doc about.but from what you have stated, this really sounds like your average female who is carrying a load of stress.this can affect the area at the back of the head and also be in the whole upper back area since the muscles actually run that way.i,just because of constant c spine inflammation, have the back of my head down thru both shoulderblades just knotted up with trigger points 24/7.ice and heat can also help alot too.

i do hope you feel better soon.but get that massage and see how things feel after that.i am sure this will help you ALOT.congrats on the baby.FB
