Hi all,

I have four children two of them only babies but the older two 11 and 7 have a lot of questions about "what's wrong with mom" that I just can't answer cos I don't know myself most of the time! Any ideas?? My daughter said to me the other day, my friends mom is really poorly she's got a bad back! I don't know where to start, please help!

:) Thanks

Hi, :)

I was searching Amazon looking at different bipolar books and found two of them geared for children to explain Bipolar...you might look into those. :) In the mean time, just explain that Mommy has her ups and downs and sometimes she's really sad, other times she's really happy and that it's a sickness like the flu that you see a doctor to help fix is my best advice...The 11 year old might even be able to understand further, but the former suggestion is really geared toward the seven year old.

Hello Blu Moon,

 I'm sort of in the same situation: but, I have three children. They're about the same age as yours and once they started asking questions I had to start giving answers ha ha. My therapist said to explain it to them on their level. My oldest son is very sensitive or... very overreactive with his emotions from watching me. So, when I told him about my problem he then reazlized that he didn;t need to react in those ways. So that's one good thing that came out of my explanatin, but all I told my boys was that mommy is sad and mad at different times because of stuff in my brain that makes me overreact. But if i take medicine it should help me, I also explained that it does not hurt me; it is nto fatal. But anyways I'm getting sleepy, guess it's bedtime. Let me know how things are going. Phoenix
