Hi guys!

I was dx'd bpII a little over 2 yrs ago and have been on and off meds and fighting the diagnosis ever since. I am sort of being nudged to go on lamictal at the moment.

I am married to a non supportive sort with 2 kids and I just lost my best friend.

I feel very alone and was just hoping to meet some new friends here.

I hope to find some support and offer whatever I have to give.

Thanks for listening.

Welcome. You have come to the right place. You will meet many friends here. I am not bipolar but read all these boards. Usually I am on the addicted board, have a son who was addicted to xanax and boy did I get support there. Still do. you need to come here often...you will receive the best advice and friendship ever! Keep your chin up and learn the diagnosis....don't let it get the best of you. You take the best from it!!!:)

Hi Foreveralone, I was dx'd a few years ago as BP1 (only because of hallucinations, I've never been manic only hypomanic) rapid cycling...so every day is a joy ride, or not. I too have a not very supportive spouse. My kids are all grown. I think you will find a lot of help and support here, I know I have in the past.

I'll be your friend!

I am 35 and was diagnosed with bipolar I over 10 years. I rapidly cycle and it sucks. This summer I was hospitalized 3 times for severe bipolar depression and now, 6 months later I think we might finally be finding the right prescription mix to help me feel better (thank God).

You're not alone. I'm new here but this seems like a pretty cool place. Looking forward to hearing from you more.

Right now I am on:
Lithium (900 mg)
Lamictal (100 mg)
Thorazine (25 in a.m. and 25 in pm)
Seraquel (25 mg)
Synthroid (I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis too)

We're still in the middle of adjusting meds so these might change. I have felt good for 3 whole weeks now. It is a blessing. It's the best that I've felt in over 4 years.

Hi there,

I'm feeling alone too, non of my family, hubby, kids (only young), parents, siblings understand me and it's soooo frustrating! I am glad I found this web site a few weeks ago it makes me feel a little less alone!:)

I am not on any medication at the mo as i've only recently been diagnosed and I'm breast feeding. Like mental mom I have a thyroid prob too. Lucilky my psy doc and endoc have finally decided to work together on me!!!! So I'm hoping 2007 will be the year I start to get well.

Any time you want to chat I'm probably on the boards somewhere

Hello-I know it can be really hard being bipolar. Your probably depressed as a result of the bipolar, and to top it all off you just lost a loved one which makes it worse. I hope you have contacted you doctor regarding the depression. Also, going on and off your meds makes it worse, so please try and take them. I know that during depression nothing matters, but you do, you matter a lot. Do you see a thearpist-they are helpful if you have a non-supportive spouse. good luck.

Thank you. I have actually been feeling pretty good for like 1-2 days now. I am starting to appreciate the people I DO have in my life. I left a message for my therapist. I am hoping they will find me a new one.

Thank you for your support. It means a lot to me.

Love, Lori

Hi Forever

Good to see you join this forum! :)

I too, have two kids. Also just got the Lamictal 2 weeks ago. It started off rather bumpy for me- nausea and sleepiness along with acting like dopey. Then I realized maybe I should take it at nighttime! LOL (Light bulb moment  ) And, now I'm feeling better, and the med is starting to work. Hope it works for you. The pdoc bumped my levels up earlier than usual as well because I was not doing so swell.

How are you doing? It is hard being a parent when having this illness. You mentioned that your significant other is not supportive? That too must be difficult. The book- "The Bipolar Survival Guide"- is a great book for family members who are stubborn and refuse to be supportive. It helps them wake up and smell the coffee. It might be at your local library. If not, sometimes libraries can get them from other libraries. Otherwise, you can find it online.

Have you ever journaled? It is a great way to vent ones feelings and emotions down when having a really tough and vengeful day. Especially when the kids or significant other is not compling to ones feelings. Take time, even just 5 minutes, to write in a journal what is going through your head, and jot down the why's, if's, and feelings. You will be suprised what you have going on inside of you. And, it will help you feel better. This is what I do to calm myself. My pdoc makes me do this exercise.

You will be in my thoughts. Hope that you have a better day. Take care of yourself.

Have a happy day today!! Mine started off really crappy. As for me, mine can only get better from here. ;)

I sincerely hope your day gets better! As for me, I had the lamictal starter pack and actually upped the dosage on my own. I take it mostly in the a.m. and have been doing quite awake. Haven't been sleeping much at night. Getting a little hypo, maybe. But after the hole I was in I deserve it LOL.

I have been journaling since I had my second child, approx. 2.5 yrs. I love it and sometimes I will write stupid little things if I have no one to talk to. Whatever works!

Thank you for your kind words. It is so nice to have support from people who "know"!

Love, Lori

Hi Lori

It is good to hear you journal too. :) Doesn't it make you feel good inside after you write? Especially after having a yucky day? It is like a huge rock has been lifted off of the shoulders for me. I also write down silly things- so you aren't alone on that. LOL

My problem today is getting motivated to clean up the kitchen. Every day this week I wake up and it is a huge disaster from the previous day. I'll get it cleaned up in 30 minutes, but I cry when I do it. Not sure why. My laundry it backed up so much it seems like I will never get it done. That is depressing. When I'm not 'sick' normally I am on top of things. I'll snap out of it soon.

I too, am on the Lamictal starter kit. Glad because it makes it easier to move up in dosages. My sister also takes Lamitcal and she said it has really helped her.

Have a great day!

I took lamictal for over a year and I do not really think it helped me. My doc believed it did but I don't. I think maybe it really did nothing at all but help me get angrier.
