Has anyone been bothered by unusually bad-smelling bowel movements?
Could it be some type infection?

Thanks!

If you have recently been on antibiotics it can cause foul smelling bm's. The antibiotics change the natural environment in the bowel (like a womans yeast infection) This results in clostridium difficile or well known as c-diff. I have seen this many times in the nursing home where i work. the bm's tend to be loose, mucusy and a strange smell- I would have to say a sour type smell. I have also noticed they can be on the greenish side. Hope this helps you or someone else.

I was on strong antibiotics for the entire month of May. Do you think I could still be having this problem from that?

Taking a strong antibiotic does mess up the good friendly bacteria in nyour intestines and it does last a long time if not correced.

To help re-balance the good bacteria you and eat yogurt that contains alot of active cultures and take a probiotic supplement.

Green veggies also help get rid of the smell.

Harry, I'm so glad you answered. I was wondering what you thought.
I do take probiotics.....2 every morning before breakfast, and I occassionally eat yogurt (Activa) Do you think it would help if I took more probiotics?

I have considered seeing a gastro dr. but I don't like to take medication and I know that's the first thing they think of. I hope I can clear this with supplements and diet.

Thank you.

jellybean,

I think it is always good to take probiotics either directly , eat yogurt (a good brand is Stonyfield Farm -- it has 4 extra cultures in it) and drink kefir sorta weekly.

The reasons are many -- we take medication that upsets the friendly bacteria that aid digestion including antibiotics and alot of others even birth contol pills , we eat too much salty foods, sugary foods as well as sugary sodas and spicy food. All sodas have been using corn syrup since 1970 --not sugar. The problem with sugar and salt -- is they have long been used to cure and preserve food and too much just has a bad affect on your digestion.

We also eat processed food that contains preservatives, pestacides, growth harmones, herbacides and who knows what else.

All of these things have some affect on our health--- that begins with digestion.

I also take supplements that contain greens foods--- barley & wheat grass, spirulina, chlorella, alfalfa and cholorophyll. The one I like and use is called Green Phyters -- from the Vitamin Shoppe.
I take it because I don't think I eat enough dark green veggies in the diet I eat -- at least not daiiy

I know doing all this helps----Harry
