:eek:Hi All,

I am a 48 year old female and I have been worried sick since my medical doctor told me he was referring me to a hematologist because my platelet count was up to 514. It was 416 last year and it was 440 back in September when I went for my yearly check-up. It has since climbed to the 514 the first of December.

I had melanoma back in July and had surgery for that. It was stage one and the dermatologist got it all. All of my other bloodwork, including iron deficiency tests, have came back all in the normal range. I have never been to a hematologist and this whole thing with the high platelets scares me to death!

I understand the "fear" when you hear that you are being sent to a specialist - but try not to panic. I'd much rather be referred to someone who knows what is happening and can answer questions - than to be worrying and researching on my own. Breathe - you are on the path to answers, the most important thing for you to do right now is to not allow fear or anxiety to add to your body's stress. It needs you relax a bit, take the actions you need to (getting to the doctor) and to be an active part of your healing. Best wishes --- I look forward to your update here.

Hello to all...i have just come across the site and found alot of good information here......

I was diagnosed with ET is Oct of 92 ...with a platelet count of almost 2 million....they originally started me off with Interferon.....on that for 6 months and nothing but depression, weight loss, anxiety..chills fever you name it...everything but lower platelets.....i then was switched to Hydrea which i stayed on for a few years....it worked for me...until i wanted to concieve a child......Angrelide was then released by the FDA i was switched to that and six months later.....i was cleared to try to conceive.....9 months later a HEAlthy baby girl was born......i stayed on anagrelide for almost 8 years......until last summer i started to experience a few heart issues..palpatations...irregular beats..etc.. they took me off and put me back on Hydrea.....Hydrea worked but then in August i formed a leg ulcer that actually required hospital stay. It is now December and it is FINALLY healed....they put me back on anagrelide but to no avail the heart issues came right back and the counts went up and up and up......I am now at 1,097,000 (i just went today).....i am currently on gleevac for the past 4 days and we are patuently waiting for the counts to come down....i experience terrible head aches....pain in the tips of my fingers and toes....visual disturbances....memory loss which dont help that im a blonde lol....dizziness...weakness...fatigue... YOU NAME IT..........

we are going to give the gleevac 2 whole weeks to see what happens.....I hope this helps.....

I am glad to find this group...Hope all is well....Happy HOlidays...Laurie , NJ, USA[/FONT]
