View Full Version : What comes after fertility drugs?

I seen my ob/gyn today. He explained to me that my last test, an HSG, was all clear. As soon as DH gets his last SA done, I have an appt on Feb. 5th to get a prescription for Clomid assuming his results are the same, above average, as usual. He said I can take Clomid for a total of 12 months throughout my life, so if Clomid doesnt work, what comes next? Im just curious. I guess TTC for 6 years will do that to someone, completely lower their hopes I mean. Oh, I didnt start seeing him until 2003, which is why the tests are now just completed.

Anyway, thanks!

Hi Alicia,

Well I hope that the clomid works and that you won't have to go through any more kind of treament :) But if it doesn't there are so many options you can take from there. You mentioned and OBGYN is he/she an RE or just an OB?? If the clomid does not work after three months you may want to consider seeing an RE. My RE put me on Femara after clomid when that didn't work. Then after that he put me on the pill for a month then injectibles. But every person's issues are different so your RE may consider other options depending on your age and diagnosis.

I wish you all the best on the Clomid, I do have a friend who's sister was on clomid and got pregnant. So keep your hopes high this may do the trick!!!

Please keep us posted :)

Welcome:wave:
I am sorry you are going through this! I would definitely agree with deluka, that if the clomid doesn't work after 3 months, move on to something else!!!! I can say that from experience. My OB kept me on it for 6 and it was WAY too long!!! The negative side effects can be awful (hostile cervical mucus, moodiness, thin uterine lining). When I went to my RE he said that you should do a treatment for 3-4 times max and then move on because the likelihood of it working is small. So, I would definitely make an appointment wtih a specialist and not stay with an OB, they are just not equipped to deal with infertility issues.

There is lots of hope after Clomid though...you can do injections with inseminations and lots of people find success with those treatments. If that does not work there is also invitro fertilization (IVF). So you have lots more options still available.

Just to give you some hope, I did get pregnant on my 2nd month of Clomid, unfortunately it ended in a m/c, but I got pregnant none the less:)

I wish you lots of luck!

Hi Alicia,

I jumped straight to clomid, gonal-f, ovidrel and IUI because I did not wanna waste any cycle with just clomid as age was catching up. But, there are people who got pregnant with just clomid. I think it depends on the IF issue that people are having - like not ovulating, luteal phase defect, hostile cervical mucus etc.

Good luck.
