Hi there,

I just joined this board and was wondering if there are any women over 40 going through the process, and if so, your thoughts, experiences, kind words of support would be greatly appreciated.

I am almost there. I am 39 and my husband is 40. We have been ttc for over 5 years. I recently found out I am pregnant :) (check out my other postings). There are definitely more things to think about and worry about at this age. I got the "What to expect when you are expecting book" and it talks a bit about the issues with high risk pregnancies, emotional and physical. I think it is harder when we are older. Some people think that we shouldn't have kids at our age and their support is insincere at best. The good news is that we may make better parents because we are more patient and tolerant and ready for parenthood!

Good luck to you!! 40 is the new 20!!

thanks. I am gay and my partner is 37 but she does not want to carry the child. I have never tried before so this is ALL new to me! I am on my 4th IUI and will be able to test around the 30th of December, if my AF does not creep up on me. I am thrilled at the prospect of being a mom! So much love to give and so much nerdiness to pass on!

 Hi there,

Welcome to the board Over 40!!! We are glad to have you join us. I am not over 40 just yet but I do have some workds of encouragment. My grandmother had 2 children in her mid 40's. Also I friend of mine's mother had trouble concieving for many years and got pregnant in her 40's outof the blue. I am not sure what kind of treaments you have had but we have a TTC thread where we indicate our ages, tx's etc. you may want to take a look at it and add your name.

Lot's of luck to you and I hope 2007 brings you that little bundle of joy we all so much desire to have.

Please keep us posted :)

Over 40 -- Welcome to the board!

I am not yet 40, but not far from it. I recently turned 38 and finally got a BFP yesterday after 3 IUIs and 2 IVFs.

Just want to wish you lots and lots of luck with your treatment. Hopefully, you and your partner will become moms really soon. Please keep us posted on how everything goes!

I will definitely keep you posted and what for posts from everyone else. It is nice to have a group of people to talk to. I feel a bit isolated. My partner and I are really the only people involved in the process. My mom thinks I am crazy and worries about my health, so after broaching the subject with her about the possibilty, I haven't told her of our trials so far.

This morning woke up with a back ache! Too soon for AF but still....

Hello Over40

I just wanted to welcome you to the board and send some BABY DUST your way :D . I hope this is your month for a BFP. The chances of complications certainly do increase with age, but they are not guaranteed. I had a friend in highschool whose mother got pregnant at 40 years old. She didn't even know she was pg for the first 4 months because she continued to get her period. Anyway, my friend's little brother was born with no complications, and he was healthy as can be. You still have an excellent chance at having a normal pregnancy with a healthy baby. Best wishes to you and your partner.

Positive vibes coming your way!!!!!!!!!!

I have a gay friend who conceived with her partner after a few tries. It sounds like you are on the right path and have lots of love to give. Best of luck to you and baby dust your way!

THi,

Thanks for your congrats! Congrats to you as well!

I am not yet on the preggo boards bc I'm just too nervous to go there right now. My last pregnancy ended in a M/C (two years ago on Christmas Day) --so it's really hard for me to feel confident about my pregnancy at this point.

Best wishes to you and your little bean! Take care of yourself and enjoy the holidays!

PS -- Over40 -- sorry for taking your thread off on a tangent!

No worries! It is nice to see the interaction. Had bad backache yesterday and today, but not sure that it is related to anything.

How is that possible? to have your period for 4 months and then be pregnant?

There are some women who continue to get their period (or at least bleed) during their pregnancy and go to full term with a healthy baby. My siser in law bled for about the first 6 months and had a perfectly beautiful baby girl. Best of luck to you!
