For the past two weeks or so, I have had a nagging cough. I don't have fever, only sometimes phlegm with it, no other symptoms. It's getting to where it hurts to cough. What could it be? I've thought either whooping cough or bronchitis. Is there a way to treat this without the doctor?

There are over the counter products to make your cough more productive. They may or may not help you with your cough. The most known otc cough drug is Robitussin. I would try that.

If your cough persists after trying this, or you start to get new symptoms or if your cough gets worse, I would immediately see your doctor. You may have have an underlying reason for your coughing that requires medical attention.

Happy holidays!

Now it's nothing but phlegm. The cough itself isn't as bad but it feels like my the upper part of my nose and chest are very clogged. What can help this?

I dont know, but it could be asthma! Is the phlegm clear or green/yellow? If its green then it could be a chest infection, if its clear then you might have asthma or something! Id see a doctor if it carries on or if it gets worse!

A nagging cough that doesn't go away could be a sign of asthma/allergies. Are you in the States? I know a lot of people there who are suffering from asthma and/or allergies due to the weird weather going on (including my parents).
