My eight year old daughter just had a sleep study last week and we are awaiting results. I am pretty certain she does have apnea(she has a lot of health issues)as my husband has apnea and I know what the symptoms are. Anyway in anticiaption of her follow up appointment I am thinking about treatment options. I know there is no way she will wear a C-PAP. Her Dr told me not to freak out, there are other options but I am starting to freak. I am wondering has anyone else dealt with thier kids having apnea and what did you do to cure it. Also for the adults that had surgery , how bad is it really??? She has already had three surgeries(unrelated)and I don't relish another one but if it will help....

My son has had his adnoids removed and tonsils removed.. any additional surgery for sleep apnea in children is not recommended until after the age of 16 or when their sinuses and airways have fully developed. In the case of the T&A.. the younder the child the better. As one grows older the tonsils embed and you have increased pain and chances of bleeding. My son recovered from his T&A apectacularly.. but he is still showing signs of sleep apnea.. which both my husband and I have ourselves. We are taking him to see the sleep doctor in January, we actually hope that his problem can be fixed by a CPAP because he is only four.. and has many years to wait for further surgeries.

Thanks for your reply. My daughter actually has already had the T&A surgery, that is why I am concerned. I guess I should talk with the DR and not get so worked up. Maybe she will do ok with a CPAP but I have serious doubts.
