I finally saw my surgeon yesterday, Dec. 19th. I am having what I figured he would say. (ACDF c5-c7). They have a cancellation TOMORROW (Thurs.), which I totally want. They are going to let me know today if CIGNA will approve it. Sometimes CIGNA likes to take their time. Here is the kicker: I am in Denver and we are expected to have 1 to 2 feet of snow between now and tomorrow morning!!!!!!!!!!!!! If the insurance approves it for tomorrow, I dont know if the surgeon can make it to the hospital! (or me, for that matter!) :dizzy:
Can you imagine?

wow thats a quickie.one thing though, have you had an H n P(history and physical) done yet?you will need to have one with your primary before you can be cleared for any type of surgical procedure.i even had to have one when they do my angiograms on my brain aneurysm.i am sure you will need to have one for surgery too.you may want to call that surgeons office and find out or they will not be able to actually do your surgery.just check into it and see what they need done.in some cases, they can actually have an NP do one the morning of your surgery, but it has to be done.just an FYI.

do you have a snowmobile??whatever works, lol.we are expecting 'our" snowstorm here in MN tomorrow too.

good luck with the surgery and just getting to that hospital.marcia

Interesting about the physical. I have had at least 12 surgeries and had no physicals beforehand. A few times they have taken blood, but that was it. You wouldnt believe the weather here right now. B L I Z Z A R D C I T Y !

Lifting you up in prayer that you, your surgeon, and his staff will be able to make it throw the snow to perform you surgery safely. All I can say is that I am green with envy. Waiting is extremely difficult! CONGRATS!!

Oh man, this is not looking good for tomorrow. They called....told me my insurance did approve the surgery, but everyone is on stand by waiting to see if the surgery center will even be open tomorrow. If I dont have it tomorrow, I have to wait till the end of Jan because the Dr. is all booked up till then. I am going to go take a XANAX now!:dizzy: The weather is getting worse by the min. here in Denver. I just talked to my mother in Fla. Its 78 and sunny~!

Hi SKZ,

What surgery are you having? I just had C4-5 5-6 done almost 4 months ago and it's quite an ordeal. I had severe spinal canal stenoisis with every other imaginable defect at three levels including the 6-7 but the Neurosurgeon decided two only do two for some reason. I had acdf with bmp and I sailed through the surgery but am having severe problems with major muscle spasms, twitching, shooting nerve pain, etc...Had to stop PT and get a new X-ray to make sure my titanium plate didn't become dislodged after a slip and fall on the ice a month and a half ago.

I wanted to tell you that I've also had many surgeries, some major but to date this one was the most extensive pre-op physical yet. I had everything from EKG to chest X-ray, bloodwork, Urine test, I was given a thorough examination by my primary care physician as well as by the Neurosurgeon. Three days prior I had to go to Loma Linda with all my paperwork and was examined by a Certified Nurse Practitioner, then the morning of surgery another nurse practitioner examined me again. Heart, lungs, they monitored my oxygen saturation which was perfect because I'm a non-smoker, but I had never had that one done before. They also did the normal stuff like BP, etc...Thn the anesthisiologst came in and examined me again, lol! They really took good care of me, that's for sure.

So, make sure you get all your ducks in a row because they are all going to be messed up when you get home, lol! Make sure you take really good care of yourself this next month and get prepared. Good luck and be prepared to be put through the mill!

I wish you well and I will look forward to reading your posts.

Hi there,
Thanks for the post. I am having ACDF C5-C7. When you said that you fell on the ice....wow.. I could relate. That is what probably got me in this position! I fell in 2000 and started having bad symptoms in 2002. We just had a huge blizzard here in Denver and I went grocery shopping today. What a mob scene. Hardly anything I wanted to cook for Xmas dinner was left. And the ice in the parking lots were like a rink. I had to park FAR from the stores. I thought I was gonna die walking on that ice. I can GUARANTEE that spinal surgeons here in Denver are going to get mighty rich off this blizzard. People are falling left and right. I am going to minimize my walkikng on ice because its too stressful!!! I just wish I had my surgeon overwith already. @#$%^*()_+ blizzard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
