View Full Version : Pilonidal Sinus, (I Just Can't Cope Anymore)

I had an operation early this year (over 10 months ago nearly 11) on a pilonidal sinus. it was all but healed, but it has healed incorrectly and left the tissue very weak, I'm on the waiting list to have it re-operated on, but over the last to weeks I've had a chest infection which has caused it to split open again, due to exesive coughing, I'm going to the doctors tomorrow, since it was operated on, it's been very sore to, sit, go to the toilet (number 2) bend over, run, lay down. But know that it's split open it's really, really sore again, plus it's bleeding again. I just don't know what to do as it seems to have taken over my life, I can't do anything with it the way it is, I tried a few months ago to go back to work but the pain was excruciating, it had my bleeding too much and literly crying by the time lunch comes around. I just don't know what to do. I can't handle it anymore. What would you suggest I do (being serious) the doctors can't tell me what I can do, just to make sure it's kept clean. (which is very hard because of the area it's in) all I'm told is I have to wait for operation, which the waiting list is about 14 months long. It's also made me fear leaving the house to go anywhere in case I need to use a public toilet, due to the fear of sitting on an open wound on a filthy toilet seat, I'm not sure what kind of infection I could get. Anyways I'm starting to dribble on to much, I just hope you have an answer for me, as no-one around me does

Hi Philip,

I'm sorry for you. This sounds really awful. Why does the surgery have such a long waiting list? This is insane. Can you not go to a different hospital?
There is a site which also has a forum which only deals with pilonidal sinus it is called pilonidal (dot) org. Maybe you can get more help there. Good luck.

Hi Philip!

I have been dealing with mine for over 3 years. I had a closed wound operation (meaning it was stitched) on 11/21. It still is open and can drain like crazy. See if you can buy a coccyx cushion for sitting on. I agree with Danny, you need to find a way to get in sooner so the docs can check it out. They might be able to give you something or do something to atleast make you more comfortable. This is hard to deal with and most people don't understand unless they have had one. I will probably get in trouble from the Mods on here but the site Danny suggested will really help you. I am on there and it helped me.

Phil-
You have my deepest sympathy--my son had a pilonidal cyst operated on while he was living in Brazil for 2 years--(no anesthestic, can you imagine) and he had to hop right back on a bike afterwards. He still talks about it after 9 years....I am going to ask him what he did because he healed up well, and trust me Brazil (and we're not talking one of the bigger cities) has pretty crude healthcare.
Do get the "doughnut" cushion....and know that people fell your pain. I hope you can get in to a dr sooner than 14 months-that's insane!!
