Had my follow-up yesterday. In Nov. my Pap came back with HGSIL and Moderate Dysplasia; Had the Colpo a week later. It came back with just inflammation and that's it.
Gyno advised two choices: LEEP, remove cells or wait and see in 4 months with a follow-up Pap to see if it was normal. I asked why the discrepancy between the two tests....she said she didn't know but leaned toward the colpo not finding the right cells. Isn't the colpo supposed to be more thorough than the PAP?
Anyway, just wondering if anyone had any advice (been there done that) kind of thing ... on which road I should go. I don't want to have an unnecessary procedure...yet I don't want to have to keep going through all of this over and over again! My gyno said I couldn't go wrong either way.

Quite the decision you have to make here. I am surprised your doc is interested in doing a wait and see. Is it possible to have the original pap re-read to check and see if it really was moderate changes? The guidelines I have read say that if there is a 2 point discrepancy that all information should be reviewed and if there is no change (to either the pap or the biopsy sample), further investigation should be done.
I had this happen to me. My pap came back moderate, the colpo/ECC showed nothing, although the colpo was "unsatisfactory" because she could not see the squamocolumnar junction (a pretty important thing to visualize!). The recommendation was to re-pap in six months. I did NOT do well with this. Perhaps it was because they had removed microinvasive cancer 9 months previous to this. To say that I was "anxious" would be an understatement.
I would not have hesitated to have a procedure done to make sure nothing was lurking undetected. But that doesn't mean that you have to.
BTW, I ended up having a hysterectomy 5 months following the moderate pap. Nothing sinister was found on pathology, so it either cleared up on its own in a three week time span between the pap and colpo, or the pap was an over-read. I felt MUCH better knowing nothing was there though. I would have felt really ticked off if the pathology had come back showing dysplasia, you know what I mean?
Hope this helps.

ugh I wrote a whole response and lost it somehow...if it duplicates sorry...i'm new here!
Anyway I just wanted to add that I just had a LEEP yesterday afternoon and the procedure itself was not bad at all. My pap came back for mild dysplasia and I underwent a colposcopy. The results of that came back inconclusive so she recommended the LEEP. She said that performing a biopsy on cell scrapings sometimes aren't as well as performing a biopsy on the abnormal cell tissue. My sample was sent to the lab and we're awaiting the results of that biopsy and she will call me back. She expects to have me on a 4 or 6 mth pap schedule following those results.
Just for piece of mind I would definitely proceed with the LEEP. The procedure was not bad at all. It only took 30 mins and she said that was longer than the norm but I bled more than usual due to taking ibuprofen for numerous days before the procedure. There was very very little pain during the procedure and I've not had any since.
Good luck in whatever you decide...
