When I first appliewd for SSDI (07/04), I did NOT select direct deposit because I knew my home was temporary at that time. Now I am very settled and I'd like to make sure they have my DD information IN CASE I am actually approved (waiting for a Hearing with the ALJ-- probably in February or March). Can I do this through my lawyer or should I call SSA?

Me personally, I would kill 2 birds with one stone. I would let my attorney handle it AND inform SSA myself for piece of mind.

if you don't want to do that now, when they call you after you have been approved, you can discuss it then.also, when you probably get your first check, there will be a brochure in there telling you just how to go about doing it.my son recieved this with his very first check.i was already signed up at the beginning of the process so mine was just automatically depositied even before i knew i had been approved.either way,you WILL be able to do this once you are approved,no problem.good luck,Marcia

Actually, I had the same thing going on with my case. I applied 4 years ago, and didn't place in my application a DD form...When I was awaiting for the ALJ fully favorable letter. I was given a bench decision. I called the SSA, the one closest to my home, and asked if my information was up to date. I also gave her all my bank info so I could get set up for direct deposit...My back pay check was in my account 30 days after my I received my fully fav letter...

If I were you I would call the SSA and give them your info....If this is the means you want you check to get to you...It is so much easier that receiving a check in the mail....

I forgot to update you guys -- I called social security ( go to the source, right?) and was told not to do anything until after I receive an award. So. I guess it was a one-time opportunity when I applied, huh!
