I have a question.....did anyones roof of their mouths change since beginning their denture adventure?

Im more than 6months into this and still have my immediates. A month ago I went in and had them take a big chunk out of the back of my upper denture. The day after this I removed my denture to find that I could feel a lump like thing right were the denture ends. This was never there before, but since they cut it, it seems that it has pushed against this spot. It will go down but now Im always aware of this round lump. Im not sure if this spot was always there just now since the denture got cut that it pushes on it that Im now aware of it.

Anyone else ever notice weird things like this?

Hope

Hi Hope! I have the same thing now too and I don't think it was there before. I thought maybe it was a callous or something like that, since the denture rests in that spot. Does yours hurt or anything? Mine doesn't. It almost feels like a blister, but with no pain.

Hi,

No mine doesn't hurt either. I wondered if it was like a callus, I know mine isn't like a blister. Ive had mine over a month now. Mine is hard.

Hi,

Any sore in the mouth should be looked at by your dentist. I have had the same set of dentures for 8 yrs. I have hated them since day one. They have never fit, but recently(5 months ago) I started having sores on the roof of my mouth. I finally went to the dentist. They are sores caused by an ill fitting denture, and can cause oral cancer over time. I have since had a new set made, I get them Jan 8th.

Please have the sores checked out!!!!!

Thanks Sid,

I have an appt for Dec 26th, this isn't a sore though. It happened the first night I took out my immediate after the roof of it was shortened.

I was just curious.....it will be looked at on Tuesday.

I saw the dentist today, she checked the lump and said I was perfectly fine, says its the way the denture now sits since its been cut back. I also just got my permanent impression for my final denture.....I'm on my way!!!!!

Thanks for all the support

have to say i have been quite confused reading your posts as when I had my dentures done i had all my teeth extracted and a series of fittings for just over 6 months before getting any dentures infact got so used to having no teeth that I went out for my birthday and it took me ages to figure out why i was getting funny looks from a guy i used to date lol

This is because I had Immediate dentures put in right after my teeth were taken out. They are not my Permanent dentures, they get done between 6 and 12 months.

I'm glad I could clear things up for you :) Most private dentists dont offer immediate dentures. I went to one that wasn't private...all care dental is where I went. Your NOT alone with the weight issue. Even though I got teeth they are basically for appearance, I too lost alot of weight and have yet to gain it back, this is pretty normal I hear. I hope everything goes smoothly for you when you finally get your teeth. You do have to learn how to talk and eat.

Good Luck
Hope
