Hi. I am looking for feedback on people whom have used Zoloft. I am have taking it since 1998. It definetley helps me. I also take .05 of Ativan every night to help me sleep. The combination does help me. I am just wondering if being on Zoloft for so long, it may not be doing as much for me as it should be. Does that make any sense?? Do antidepressants stop working over time??
Thanks for your feedback!

Hi Max7547,
I've taken Zoloft off and on since 1994 (probably 5 years off, total, with sporatic & intermitent rounds of it in between). I have heard that after a while, some meds can kind of "wear off" or be a bit less effective. I do think if I faced the stuff I went through in 1994 with the 100 mg. I usually take, it wouldn't cut it. For most things now 100 is fine, but not always.
Some women find that the monthly cycle can increase the need for a higher dose, for about a week. Not everyone does increase their dose, but I know women who do, and they find it can be helpful.
More or different stress can "tax" your dose as well. The published range of dose is up to 200 mg., but I know a few moms who have been up to 400 mg., rx'd by a psychiatrist.
What's been going on?

Yes, antidepressants can stop working over time.
The good news is that they quite often work just as well as they did in the beginning after a break. My shrink says 6 months is long enough.
Zoloft has been an absolute wonder drug for me, but it did poop out. I spent a miserable 12 to 18 months trying other meds before I went back on it. I'm thrilled that it is working incredibly well - again! - and at a very low dose.
